If one was to take ones stock steering wheel with air bag off and fit a nice pretty steering wheel without airbag would this need to be mentioned to the insurance people as a mod?

Reduction in safety equipment and all that.

Discuss.

Well that's definitely a mod, but I wouldn't have thought whether the old steering wheel had an airbag or not would be of interest to the insurance company.

I expect it would be of interest to your MOT tester though, if you didn't get rid of the airbag light.

I thought it's the case for the MOT that you can't replace an airbag steering wheel with one without an airbag. Is that right?

If so, you'd still get away with it for the MOT, as there's no way to tell if the previous steering wheel had an airbag - unless an airbag light was on :)

Cheers guys. I'll do a search on stopping the airbag light from lighting :) and tell the insurance theives when I fit it :(

Anyone used any of those 'Jap Import Modded cars welcome' type insurance companies you see advertised magazines like Jap Performance? I reckon Tescos are gonna cane me at this years renewal what with all the Supes we've 'lost' this year. :(

Blimey, it never even occured to me about declaring it when I was trying to fit a Momo wheel.

What about boost gauges? I've heard that you should declare those, but I haven't.

I mean where does it all end? What about uprated headlight bulbs? Or clear indicators/side repeaters? Facelift rear lights.

Oh and yeah I rang quite a few of those 'specialist' insurance places when I was looking at getting a Supra, none of them came anywhere close to the Tesco quote.
