Replacing carpets

I have recently emptied the car of seats and the dash... and really noticed how disgusting the current state of the carpet is.

Whats the best way to go about removing/renewing this. Being super bodge, air compressor, fabric paint and an afternoon was my first thought :D But I have a feeling it wont be as nice!

Any hints/ideas where to get decent material?

you could just remove the carpet, hose / jet wash it off outside, leave it to dry and then dye in black. i've done 2 now in this way and the improvement is vast.

Hammer. Nail. Head.

That is EXACTLY what I wanted... many kudos to you sir!!!

keron sent me a nice black one for £150, think thats the best option

I don't want to take anything away from keron but doing it yourself, if you have the time, is the best option. Most of the hard work is removing and replacing the carpet, which you'll have to do if you buy a replacement anyway. So may aswell just buy a £20 bottle of dye and diy.
