Boost problem?

Hi all,
Just a quickie :cool:
Not too bothered and may just be my imagination but on my UK spec TT I don't seem to have the 'pick up' in power that I used to.
The second turbo spools up but I don't always seem to get the 'kick' from it that I'm used to? Got no smoke or bad noises, just done oil change etc, and the engine sounds fine as do the turbos. Could one of the hoses have a hole from the turbo? Any other suggestions?

Maybe a chance a hose could have been pulled off when the oil change was being done?

Have you changed fuels recently? The TTs will pick up much better with decent fuel in them, so if you used Optimax and then went to SUL once it will feel slower.

Might also be the warm weather, if your IC is a bit shagged then it wont be cooling as much as it should do.

If you haven't got a boost gauge it's difficult to tell. If a hose was off you wouldn't be making positive boost. It may have a tear in one or a VSV problem. Have you got the cats still??

Right then lads,

Hose being pulled off while changing oil.....possible as that filter is a bitch and I ended up getting to it from above so may have knocked something? what/where should I look ???

Branners, I'm using same fuel (not optimax). Thing is it seems to be making all the right 'noises' just don't 'kick' as before. Oh, and the clutch seems fine, not slipping.

Terry, no boost gauge, infact the whole car is bog standard cats still in. Hoses, tear or off, where and how to check for tears?
VSV, well now you've lost me, I'm not a totally thick shite but I need a little bit of guidance with what to look for and where to look for it :rolleyes:

Hi Paul, vsv's activate the turbos. I have only just noticed you are in Hemel. Leon is in Watford for the short term. Give hime a call 07956 285219. He will find a problem if one exists.

If you have a bad batch of fuel it is possible to feel the top end performance drop off a bit.

You could do a reset on the ECU to see if that helps, with the ignition OFF just pull EFI1 and EFI2 fuses for about 30 seconds, put them back in then take the car for a run. If it is a bad batch of fuel then you should initially have the sort of performance you expect and then it slowly drops off as the ECU relearns. If it still feels the same then get Leon to take a look.

I knew about taking one fuse out, EFI 1, but not two.
I've only ever done one so I suppose it did bugger all ?

I know where one is but what about the other?

The answer could be that you've just got use to the power of the car and it no longer feels as quick. It is quite a common symtem with the Supra, you can cure it easily with another performance mod :)

I've had a similar thing this morning. M25 was very quiet so I made the most of it. I was running 18psi for a while then the car felt slower and was only making 14-15psi. It wouldn't go any higher for the remainder of the journey. I'll see what it's like tonight.

Should it ever do this, or is it likely to me something mechanical that needs fixing :(

Mmmm, my car is still doing this evening. Looks like something bad may have happened this morning :( The engine runs smoothly, I can feel the first turbo OK then the second comes in, but nothing like as hard and only to 14psi. I only managed a couple of squirts coming home, but the gear change seems different as well, like it's changing up a bit early.

I'll reset the ECU and have a chat to Leon about it.....

Who is running a pod filter and not the stock one???

Mine isn't all that quick in this heat its got a K&N with a mini shield but the cone it too hot to hold right now!!!!

I think I need a direct feed and fast!!!

Stock filter (stock everything!) and yeah I did know about the 'heat' but it has seemed a bit iffy even a few weeks back, colder and wet?

Fair enough...could it then be that you've lost some "surge" through the stability of your fuel...for example maybe the car is used to the fuel and is now mapping as Mr. Toyota intended?
