Stock UK Spec TT6

I'm weighing up my options on which Supra to get.

By just doing a search on GoCompare, a J-Spec TT6 comes up with the cheapest price of £4300. Checking for a UK Spec TT6 the cheapest price is £2300. Both searches are for completely stock cars.

Question is, how easy would it be to find a stock UK Spec TT6 and would it be worth the higher initial outlay for the cheaper insurance?

I'd like to start with a stock Supra now so I can learn the car and drive it as Toyota intended it to be then go BPU after a year or so (or when the insurance would be cheaper). But with the prices of the BPU kit from Whifbitz I know it would be hard to wait to do it.

What do you guys think?

Firstly, best way is to look through the classifieds on here, and pistonheads and autotrader. If there are no stock-ish UK TT6s for sale, then not easy at all! :) You're obviously fishing from a much smaller pond by looking for a UK TT6.

Secondly, I wouldn't trust supra quotes from any of the comparison websites. They're fine if you drive a silver Ford Focus 1.6, have 2.4 kids, work in an office, etc etc. For insuring a supra, I'd definitely suggest going to a broker.

There were less than 250 UK spec 6 speeds imported to the UK so your task will not be that easy, if you find a car with small mods say its been bpu'd then it wouldnt take much to put it back to stock !!

If your saving £2000 on insurance then in 2-3 years the extra you might pay for the UK car will easily cover itself

You really need to speak to a specialist insurer though to get a proper idea on the cost.

I take it you dont want the auto version ? a bit more choice and a chunk cheaper and still a great car :)

I've checked all the classifieds on here and autotrader and ebay and I think I've seen maybe 3 of them since I started looking.

I only used that as an example, just to show that it's half the price even when searching on comparison sites.

Yeah, I expect it to be hard, just wondered whether it was worth the wait to find one and obviously the higher price to buy it to start with.

I don't really want an auto just because I'm set on a 6 speed and as it's quite a big purchase and I'm planning on keeping it for quite a while so I want the right car to start with :)

Call up sky and get a quote from them, try adding your dad/mum onto the insurance as a named driver. My first year doing that brought it down by nearly 500quid

I've only just turned 22 and they won't quote anyone under 23 unfortunately :(.

Adding my Dad and/or Mum to the insurance only brings it down by about £300 but I'll do it anyway as my Dad wants to drive it :)

Thanks for the help so far chaps.

I tried them when you recommended them in my other thread about insurance but they wouldn't quote me due to my age and the fact it was an import.

I've tried quite a few but none of them will quote me.

Okay then i guess its either suffer paying really silly money to insure an import or wait till one of the specialists will qoute you, how old have you got to be for sky or lwib to quote you ?

They wouldn't quote due to age/import as well.

23 for Sky and I think LWIB said 25 but it's mainly because it's an import.

Looks to be a beaut but for £20k I'd buy myself a single and would still afford the insurance.

Thanks for letting me know though :)

sorry i misunderstood you i thought you wanted to start of in twin turbo then go bpu and then single.you should set your sights on a jap import forget about a uk car, they are very hard to come by.

josh i have a nice supra due in feb black 6 speed tt, only exhaust mod.

Oh cool, I'm guessing it's a J-spec. I've had a PM about a UK TT6 but I'll weigh up the options and see what will be best in the long run.

Got a link to the car, Jurgen?

:)

:)

pretty much stock mate and it will be fresh import so it will be rust free.(as if you want UK car in similar condition you will need to pay top money).

I know its a poor company to deal with but have to tried Elephant? I went with them when I got my UK TT6 and it was about £600 fully comp, with 0 NCB as it was on my daily driver. It then dropped the following year to about £300!

Have you tried getting quotes using an actual UK6 reg number to get a better idea, rather than using the random car search thingy?

As Jurgen has just said.. Unless you really want cream/beige interior then its IMO not worth the initial extra ££, even if it is for insurance reaons. My excuse is I wanted black, with light interior and manual and the car just came up at the right time within a decent distance. I don't think the whole UK/Jspec banter really makes any difference when you drive them.

And Jurgen has what you are wanting coming in straight off the boat, so you know its gonna be a perfect example. I have a stock complete exhaust if you wanna swap though! :)

We have a winner!

For a stock UK TT6, elephant.co.uk just quoted me... wait for it.... £1400 p/a :D:D

The extra money I'll spend on a UK spec car will be made back straight away as I'll be paying £2-3000 less per year for insurance. Plus I want to go BPU in the future and if I got a J-spec I'd have to look at upgrading to bigger brakes which I won't need to do with the UK Supra :) Oh and obviously the turbos would be stronger.

Just need to check my money situation then I may be ready to buy.

Anyone want to buy a Golf? :p
