Alrighty fellow supra owners once again i need your advice! I as my info say's live in Fife (when i'm actualy home) and am undertaking a project for the winter, The engine is going from 612hp to 800hp ish and i'm gonna clean up the body work which is where i'm stuck! not being in the uk i can't scout about to find a good painter! i'm looking to get the rear bumper cut free ( it's been blendid in by the previouse owner) and the rest of the car touched up. there's some scratches and such on the wings etc. i'm not changing the colour so it's not back to bare metal just re-painted to touch it up!

Also the rear wheels have been dinged (by me!) and need refurbed before some new rubber goes on! they're not buckled but i've removed a bit of lacker. any body got experience of any good painters/wheel repairers in this area?? don't mind a bit of a jurney to find one but not stupid distance as i'd like to check up on the car every once and a while!

Very interested to hear about the upgrades to get to 800 BHP, any details on your cars spec ??

unfortunatly most of the work was done by the old owner so needs checked first! not to change the threads nature i'll give the basics of what is believed on the car!

HKS 272 cams (other head work unknown if any)

HKS pistons (crankwork unknown if any)

twin fuel pumps,swirl pots,pressure reg,1000cc injectors

AEM ems and supporting electronics

4" exhaust down pipe,4"vielside TI exhaust mid and back section

FMIC (unknown type and capability)

gt4088 turbo on HKS manifold

so the plan is the hks clutch is being swapped for a carbonetic twin plate (900hp rating) the viscouse fan is being deleted and bigger rad fitted. i'm ordering a hypertune plenum next week. all new pulley's and a crank damper. the AEM's gettin swapped for a syvecs hopefully. the turbo is being replaced with a borg warner unit! other than that its checkin the state of the rest of the parts to confirm they are what they say they are! maybe billet crank, might go for 3.4 stroker while i'm at it with billet main caps. head might get flowed to. the car was baught from jurgen vallons and was said to be built very well! it's 612 at 1.6 bar boost at the moment and the race fuel setting puts out an unknown amount. the car apparently used to belong to another member think Jamie P knows him called "jonty" i think. goes well as is but you know there's always room for more. revs to over 7500rpm so hope there's been some stuff i don't know about done as thats not good for a normal engine, power still feels like it's climbing when the shift light comes on so who knows! i'll need to see what the state of play is like when i get the engine pulled and sized up for the new additions. :D

oh yeah where's Ellon?? long way from Dunfermline??

you know him eh! is Mr jonty still a member on here or has he moved on after selling me his car would like to confirm some mods as i said there's some things that i don't know about! and yes there's most defanetly a fortune spent on this car i have the reciepts to prove it! just sorting a suspention knock and the wheels i pranged a bit first then the project really kicks in! excitted let me tell you though!! :D:d

oh and you can all laugh the wheels where chipped by me when i lost it on a roundabout two months back!! first part of the drift went well then oops!.. to much!! still straight just scratched the laquer off think one has some nicks in the actual metal!

beet me to it thanks chap!!

Jonty stopped coming on here a long time ago fella, I know him from the old Turbofit days, his car was maintained regardless of cost, he suffered like a few on here with poor workmanship from a couple of places back in the day however, although I think he got most of the issues sorted out a long time ago

I was sure it had a trick paint job with some gold fleck in the paint??

Good luck with the car, should be a monster when finished

thought the colour wasn't normal!! now i know!

anyway that does'nt say anything about rods, crank, main caps or specifics on head work so thats where i'll start me thinks!! engine's no where near that clean any more and none of those coloured hoses are there any more!! well after christmas i'll have the clutch, hypertune manifold, rad and pulleys so then it's down to either whifbitz or srd to start the build depending on who can do it they are buisy people i understand! cheers for the link "tooquicktostop"

No worries, my name is Dean BTW, easier than tooquick

Yes the paint was a very expensive black with gold fleck, will be tough to match, the car had a saga of clutch issues one upon a time, it was always a very quick car though and once upon a time had a full VS kit on it

well thank you Dean its nice talkin to yah!

And i now know where Ellon is and thats a bit further than i was hopping to be honest if needs must then of course but there must be some where closer than a four hour ish drive! and what about wheels there must be someone that has needed a refurb other than me i'm not the only one that has had an oops in a supra! i'd like to be able to pop back and forward to check on my baby during the painting proccess!

You know how it is!! :D

Tunning japenese built the engine, it has stock rods with hks pistons iirc, Dan turner was the last person to work on it, he mapped it an all, http://www.advancedme.co.uk/

.

Shame you damaged the wheels, they was on my old car and i sold them to jonty, very light, you wont get another.

its chipped the laquere on one but the other has a nick in the metal! should be able to wet and dry it out but need to get it done properly as i like the wheels and it's not even effected the ballance or any thing!..still mint!

the state of engine tune has me concerned though have a reciept for pistons and rods,i guess it's just new stock rods then! all i can say is i feel a stroker kit comin on! this new info makes me think i should just start from scratch and bin the lot i have!:(

infact bollox think i will i'll get my hypertune maybe this week then i'll get a built head orderd from whifbitz and i'll save for one of srd's stroker kits with billet crank and main caps! i'll hope that the blocks good (but i'll check of course) start from the ground up, the catch is if i take this route it won't be an 800hp build it'll be as much as i can safley push! clutch is good for 900hp so there's a start. ;)

JUST new rods!!!! - I can only find 2 rod failures on this whole forum , and both have not been confirmed as the rod itself failed , one was at 30psi and 8000 rpms !! and all despite some serious bolt on tuning and abuse on unknown stock engines at high miles over the years

Mr jagman i understand what you are sayin and i do watch like many others Mr JamieP's car with shock at what the engineers at toyota built back then! almost three times the standard power is just incredible!

i'd like to run a very high rpm limit but its down to this...i have a reciept for an os giken clutch it has a hks clutch, it has reciepts for rods it has standard ones, i have reciepts for arp bolts and studs it has none! i know the standard stuff is quality but the way things have come about the only thing i'm confident in is it has a single turbo coz i can see it!! the people on here know more than me about this car and my budget was 13grand to get another 188hp but i want confidence in it! i'm gonna have to break this engine to it's basic parts and check everything! if thats the case it's better to start from scratch and go whole hog!! forget my original budget it won't happen and the time scale (by next summer) and build something special.

i ment no disrespect Mr Jagman i was not mugging off original rods! :notworthy

to be honest Mr JamieP i don't know it doesn't but the reciept i have is for "customer supplied HKS pistons and rods" this was stated in the work carried out box! the arp bolts/studs are on the same reciept so i presumed they where done at the same time the guts where out the car. you said there's no rods and you don't know about bolts/studs! the link Tooquicktostop (Dean) gave does not mention rods or bolts in the spec list! i have no reason to doupt what you say so hence there is none! you know the car and old owner i don't! just wanted a supra since i was about ten and seen this one and thought hell yeh thats a good starting point and within the 20grand budget i had at the time.

I would be very surprised if Jonty never fitted ARP bolts and studs to be honest, I would have a long chat with Lee at SRD/Paul at Whifbitz and get your tuning strategy aligned to your requirements, dont get into the BHP chasing game for the sake of it,its expensive !!

i know it's more addictive than crack!! :D:d

i only want more because although its a quick car it's not holly sh#t quick! the only reason you know its fast is by lookin at the speedo and i want to feel quick! maybe it's not running right! thought about trying to make it lighter instead of more power to but twice i've been raped by subaru's and i don't mean off the line. this led me to plan more power!

i've spoken to Paul at whifbitz ( he's supplying my clutch which should be on it's way now) and he said the power i wanted was within reason but i'll need to discuss 900hp see what he thinks but due to not having exact details on the car as i said it means stripping to nut and bolts and checking everything either way!

I think you need to decide what exactly you have and what exactly you wish for, trying to simply chase high bhp numbers can result in a very high and narrow power band , thats OK for specialist use like drag racing or track racing but can be a mare on the road , a wide power band is much better in most cases with progressive power .

Many aftermarket parts have little actual long term testing and only fitted to very few cars , confidence wise : there are known issues like water pumps, crank pulleys, coil packs etc , and the biggest benefit is clean , clean oilways, water ways, bores, valves, pistons , bearings . renew moving parts ,belts, tensioners, etc and you have a now gone a long way towards reliability and confidence ,,,

Find a tuner and they can advise on what you have and why you are down on power ,and replace the necessary parts for reliability , money is easy spent but seldom wisely spent !!
