Billet timing tensioner bracket (mkiv)

Are these worth the money? Who sells them the cheapest? Could we possibly get a GB on this item?

Like Paul says if you are looking for big power you cannot take any chances and they are a nice insurance policy, the yanks seem to have had a few fail so I would say if Paul can arange a group buy that would be cool, we will prob be up for a couple as we have a couple of big builds going on soon, Paul also sells the Gates racing timing belt which if you are buying these is really a must, so maybe Paul you can do a price with the Gates belt. From memory they do not come with a pulley on so the bearing in the pulley is available from any bearing shop, that should take care of the tensioner side of things.

I'll start a group buy in my section ASAP, I'll let you know as soon as its on there.

I Had a fairly new tensioner let go on me,running approx 600bhp standard rev limit. was on full WOT at the time bent all 24 ferrea valves due to my flat top pistons.

I have one on mine but i have to say they are fortunes for what is a tiny bit of metal, i bet the machine shop i use could knock these up from billet for peanuts.

I found a guy on supra forums selling them (titan brand) for 150 shipped! He said he has multiple. Great buy!!! User is flatline16 over there if you guys want to get in on it.

My tensioner (s) arrived from a member over on supraforums today. I bought 5 of them If anyone needs one I will sell you one for 150.

I'm interested as to why people think these have broken in the past?

The cam belt doesn't see any increase in load as power increases. The only load it should see is the load required to turn the camshafts, which would only increase if particularly aggressive cams or valve springs were used.

The worst case scenario for the belt is WOT revving the engine in neutral then lifting off fully.

Other than that I can't see why they'd break.

Still belts and braces and all....

I would convert it to a fixed mechanical tensioner if it were my engine and it was going to see a lot of revs. Hydraulic tensioners on cam belts are just for low service requirements, I don't trust them on "race" engines.

I don't think it's the hydraulic tensioner that's the issue Chris, it's the actual pulley bracket that has been breaking.

Converting from a the hydraulic tensioner to a mechanical system would be very easy to do.

An old thread I know, but I take it the oem pulley is a direct fitment on these brackets?

Yes, I got a complete OEM tensioner bracket, pulley and a billet tensioner, just need to swap the oem pulley to the billet bracket.
