LSD or Not

Hi All

Had a 6spd conversion done a while ago and am just trying to confirm whether i now have an LSD.

Spoke to Toyota this morning and they have given part no 41110-14730 as the diff from the donor car, but couldn't tell me what type it is.

Do any of you Supra Guru's out there recognise or have come across this part number

Cheers:search:

Jack it up, turn one of the rears by hand. If the other doesnt move, you should be good

Just given this a go and yes if you turn one wheel the other dosen't move.

I thought with an lsd they were both mean't to turn the same way and non lsd turn opposite ways. Hope nothings broken!!!

IMHO the only sure way to know with Torsen type diffs is to pull the back cover off and have a look inside, or use a borescope through the level plug hole.

This is a bit advanced for me, im just a bloke working in his garage at home. I don't have a boroscope and even if i did i wouldn't know what the differences were to look at.

Are you saying though that you can have an lsd or non lsd in the same outer casing, hence looking inside.

Apologies if i sound a bit thick, im not, i just don't know much about the internal workings of supra diffs, or any others for that matter.

Yes, the casings can be the same. If it was an unmolested car the chassis plate would tell you, but if it's a "bitsa" unless you know the chassis plate of the diff's donor car, you need to look inside. Torsen diffs have little preload, so until there is a torque reaction (driving hard with dissimilar grip on the two back tyres) not much happens, so they feel like an open diff. Even when working properly they don't do much, unlike a more performance orientated type such as a plate type LSD. These are unpopular on all but 4 x 4's as they can clunk and judder. If you brought it to me for a service I could have alook inside it for you ;)

Google Torsen to see how they work and what they look like inside.
