Texas Mile Preparations

I'm happy to announce we officially have a UK car entering this year's Texas Mile event.

For all who don't know about the Texas mile:

http://www.texasmile.net/index.php#movie

The amount of work, and effort put in over the past few months has been immense.

I started working with Cody Phillips from the US last year, and since then he's been working real hard with me on helping develop some turn-key packages for us over here, so we can finally start competing with our counterparts across the pond.

Cody is a real hard working guy, without his efforts the development of the Supra world would be missing a key component.

He's been a key part of alot of the US development, albeit behind the scenes on many a occasion.

The best way to do so was to send a RHD Supra from the UK over there.

Since then the development and planning of a Supra capable of running 8 second 1/4 mile times, and 240+ on a 1 mile straight while remaining a "street" car has slowly been coming to fruition.

Cody's constant hard work and R&D has allowed his own car to reach these levels and culminated in numerous 8 second passes and a 231 terminal in the march Texas mile event.

Our decision to enter the mile this year was spurred by the great results from Cody's car in march.

If we could achieve 230 1st time out, then the next time we could further improve, as well as get a world record if we use a RHD car :)

So we signed up again and the build which had already been planned commenced.

The block had to be a 3.4, the fact that they can rev to 10k as well as the increase in the torque made it an easy decision.

A new block was ordered and a Titan Stage 4 engine assembled. With stage 96 internals this setup was tried and tested on many big power engines.

Cody had developed and changed many components when building the block for the 1st mile attempt and modified the oil system to allow better cooling and flow efficiency.

These mods were extremely successful and the last motor never saw over 90c over the mile even at 230. It also was the only car to leave the mile event without any issues.

Turbo wise, there is no other choice for the mile but the GT55-33R :D

Capable of over 1300whp, as per the vid:

it's our only option to be competitive.

So once the block was complete, off the car went to VWR.

Dana Westover of VWR runs a small organisation, however his results really do speak for themselves. He hand makes most of his parts, and the quality is awesome.

With proven 180+ cars in the 1/4 VWR manifolds etc were again the only choice

Custom made by VWR for the Weldon pump.

The mile has stringent safety regulations, including the requirement of a cage/parachute setup, DS Loop etc.

So off to a local cage shop it went

Management wise, the car had been running an AEM V1

The AEM is a very capable unit, however to break world records sometimes a little extra is needed.

So we went with one of these:

With all the advanced features unlocked and the 1mb datalogging capability, it's a definite advantage.

Drivetrain wise, a Tilton triple carbon is being used alongside a TRD LSD.

The J-Spec 3.26 gearing has been swapped out for the 3.13 for the gearing, hopefully allowing us to get as close as we can to 250.

I'll update the thread with some more pics as I get some more time.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics for now!

Looks like an interesting project, can we have more details on the fuel setup with some bigger pics, from the small pics it looks like they have welded on a custom fuel pickup, has the pump been mounted externally?

Thanks for the support guys, much appreciated.

Here's a bigger pic of the fuel hanger

The pump is en route so the fuel system hasn't been mounted up as of yet.

We went for the 2035a Weldon pump.

Jamie for the long run it's an awesome pump, noisy though!

Titan have them on sale atm:

The 55-33r is only going to be used for the mile event, for the road and drag strip we're going to be using the GT47-80.

The pics show the 47-80 mounted up. The 55 is ALOT bigger!;)
