Spraying small sections of bodywork!?

I've just got rid of a couple of small scratches on the rear bumper which required sanding and spraying. I masked the area off and have dont the spraying, but when I remove the masking tape (still need to do this) there is going to be a ridge where the tape has been from the build up of paint. My question is, how do I blend this in to the rest of the paint work, or get rid of this ridge?

Dude, any tips mate?! :D

Use some very fine wet and dry sandpaper, I use 1200 grade.

The higher the number the less abrasive it is .

If it is on a flat area then use a small block of wood or a proper sanding block to wrap the wet and dry sandpaper around.

Keep the area well lubricated with soapy water.

Be careful not to rub too hard or you'll get down to the undercoat.

Once you have got rid of the ridge, use some T-Cut to blend in the new paintwork.

I only use masking tape to mask off lights, panel edges, rubber trim etc.

I used to make the mistake of masking around a scratch or a dent but you'll always get a ridge.

Cool, I've got some 1200grit in the garage I was using between coats.

So you recomend not masking off the area at all then? What about overspray, will that just cut into the rest of the body with a bit of t-cut?

Got another small part along the side skirt I want to do, shall I just spray without masking and then cut it in?

Cheers for the help!

You can also get stuff called rubbing compound. Its like a more aggresive T-cut. Myself I would still mask things I didnt want getting oversprayed (but further out from the spray zone) I would spray the area and allow spray to go onto the surrounding area in small amounts. Then when it is properly dry use rubbing compound to smooth it all in. A ridge is always gonna be hard to work off and you are very likely to go through the top coat of the lower paint level before you get rid of the ridge. Gently spray the area around the ridge you have created and in a couple of areas then rub it all in. I personally finish my paintwork with 12,000 grit micro-mesh.

Dude, can you recomend where to get this fade out thiners from. I think if I cant get rid of the ridge, I'll just rub down and do it again without masking it.

Took the masking tape and paper off last night and it doesn't look too bad, you can only see the patch thats been sprayed if you get up close. I'll leave it a couple more days to set then give it a go.
