Waterfall noise behind dash

Hi, have noticed recently what sounds like running water behind the dash, more like a river actually Can generally be heard when first starting the car or sometimes after hard acceleration, sometimes not at all. But last 3 times the car was used i heard it a few times on the journey.

Is it trapped air in the coolant system? Does it need a complete flush?

check the passenger footwell for wetness. Your heater matrix may be on its way out.

I wondered that and had a look and all was bone dry. Car also still blows hot and cold incase that helps to diagnose

I have the exact same problem, for over a year now so I'm interested in hearing peoples thoughts.

Exact same symptoms too, although my heating is lukewarm at best, when I give it some welly I hear the swishing noise then get a little heat.

No change at all, hot is hot , cold is cold

There are two pipes in the engine bay near the bulkhead that lead through into the matrix. These have a habit of leaking, and may be letting air in at this point, and causing the noise in the coolant system behind the dash.

You dont happen to have any pics of where abouts these are do you mate?

When looking at your engine, look towards the back of the cam covers. There are two coolant pipes that go over the top of the engine. It's them.

If it is any consolation I have had that noise for over 10 years, never been able to trace it, it has never caused a problem

I noticed when i got the car back from a non supra specialist garage a short while back, he said your coolant is a bit low, ive topped it up. When i checked, i looked at the expansion bottle in the far right hand corner of the bay and it was about an inch and a half past the full mark. This is just an expansion bottle isnt it? There always used to just be a small amount over the low marker in there.

You'll see a pink residue buildup if they're leaking.

The level in the expansion tank will vary depending on conditions. The level will be higher when the car has had a good run, but it should be at the max marker when cold.

When the car is cold fill the rad to the brim and fill the expansion bottle (infront of the rad) to the full/max marker.

Air in the system.

Run the car up with the heater on full hot and the rad cap off which will allow air out of the system, raise the revs a little (2000rpm) to help clear the air out the system. Top up till the rad is full to the neck.

Top up the exspansion tank to the max level.

The method above does not always work. So I fitted an ARV to my system, bled it once, all air gone.
