Stupid Question of the Day

I've just filled up after yesteday's mapping session. I was almost on Empty. I put in 73.8l into my tank. But I thought the standard tank holds 70l. And - I checked for leaks. None.

How's this possible?

What's the maximum you have put into your tank?

Not a stupid question as I have no idea how you have managed that. I managed to get 68 litres into my NA once, I think..!!

Where abouts is the needle in your cars when the light comes on?

After fitting new dials, i filled the car up and placed the needle back on the full mark. Now the light comes on when it gets to the last line before the empty section which i think is slightly high but cant remember where it used to come on before. Think i may need to move it slightly lower.

I always fill it up to the top of the neck (and only ever had a max fill of 65l in the past) - the only thing that's changed is the stock pump has been replaced with the Bosch one. But 4l worth of displacement saved? I don't think so.

Tony, It's Tesco Napier Road Reading - 99 RON and only 116.9ppl!! But good point - maybe their metering is off.....

And I didn't get as low as the warning light coming on. And I have the Speedhut stick on dials too. I'll keep a watch next time.

I get low 70-odd in mine, I guess it depends on the needle in you car, if it is set too high it might be reading empty before it actually is and you can't put in as much or vice versa?

My gauge fluctuates, didn’t they have a extended tank option ?

I filled up with super from the first mark past E cost me about £55 till the pump click

After the day's mapping session etc and with the fill up (if accurate) it worked out at a wopping 10.4mpg - so I don't think I'll be leaving it running too many times... such is life in the fast lane
