Polycarbonate can be done instead of the glass, but due to the curves in the shape, it does not seal perfectly.

 

What puts me off this is that you will very likey keep the stock glass, but you still lose the rear wiper (though the washer remains), a PITA. Also, if you do go for a non-glass screen, you lose the heating elements as well!

 

If I lived Texas or Arizona, it would be on the car for sure, but it really does not make sense given the trade-offs and weather over here.

Carbon fiber only works if you go for it big time, either have loads of it or none at all.
