does having slightly heavier wheels really mater ?

I had rims on order but they said they won't have them in stock for another month so I got a refund.

now I've been doing some research on supra wheel weight and they are about 24.5 lbs front and 26.5 lbs rear. These are the for stock 17".

the non-turbo Supra's has 16", I'm not sure how much those weighed.

I have a 1993 non-turbo 5 speed btw.

I wanted to buy stern st-8 rims, yes I know they aren't the best brand, but from what I know they are good quality for the money. I'm 18 years old so my budget can't go that far, so understand my choice

the rims I was looking at are 18x8.5 (about 25/26 lbs) and 18x9.5 (about 28/29 lbs)

so basically they will be about a couple pounds more on each corner. Is this something I should stress about or is it no big deal? I'm just using my car to rip around town and stuff like that, no tracking, I just don't want decreased performance or fuel consumption.

Unless you have race/drag/track car, i think you're making this too complicated.

The simple way is, 17's for handling, 19's for looks, 18's is a compromise of both.

You've clearly done your research, to find a set of wheels that are not too heavy that you like the looks of. As long as you get the geometry checked after fitting the wheels, I cant see there being a problem.

if you select tyres that retain the same rolling radius then you will find the 18" tyres are lighter than the 17" ones and so you are likely to save some weight there, perhaps even resulting in the all in weight of wheel and tyre being less.....

If you aren't a racing driver competing on track then doubt you'll notice any difference in the real world........

i had some cheap wheels on my old supra which weighed a ton. Then bought advan s and the weight difference was massive. Bear in mind most cheap alloys weigh much more than stock. And the advan s were quite a bit lighter than stock. And for me there was a very noticeable increase in performance. Though i did upgrade the tyres at same time
