uk scoop, just for cosmetics

My car is going in for a respray tomorrow. I had intended on having them fit a UK scoop which I bought from toyota a while back.

I had been assured that it would just be a case of drilling four holes through the bonnet as to mount the scoop on the existing bracing. Seemed straight forward, but it looks like I wont be able to use the original mounts unless I cut the two sections out of the bonnet - which I dint want to do.

How has this been tackled before? Is it just a case of drilling four holes and using long self tappers?

Any advice appreciated

If it's just for cosmetic then drill the four holes and get the proper bolts and the rubber seal. no point cutting the bonnet unless you're fitting the snorkel anyway.

I have a pdf how too that I did, not sure if it's worth putting up.

If you are going to the trouble why not put the holes in the bonnet, surely its pointless fitting it otherwise :search:

I see your point but it was purely for cosmetics, I really like the look of the UK scoop. Not too keen on getting our british weather all over my engine bay though!!

After having another look, it would seem that i'll have to cut the sections out of the bonnet - balls..

May have to knock the idea on the head

If you wouldnt mind mate. I have the whole kit bar the snorkel; scoop, 8 self tappers, 2 front mounts, rear mount piece, 4 nuts, grille, rubber trim, and a gasket.

So if I just drill through th

e bonnet using using the correct holes in the bracing as a guide, thid kit should theoretically fit flush?

Thanks

I see no reason why not. if you can sit the scoop flush on the bonnet then drilling four holes it must be able to screw down.

Else follow the pdf I linked. copy the template into into a paintshop and print at 100%

Easy to tell if it's right. Drill the four holes and see if it lines up.

Just been to have a look, if I were to just drill the 4 holes and surface mount the scoop, it would sit about 1cm off of the bonnet.

Thanks for the advice though.
