600bhp And 450ft/lbs

Seen a Supra today at the Show at Louden Castle, and the Spec said 600bhp 450ft/lbs is that possible??

ide say so.. usually the higher the Hp on these cars the torque seems to drop off a bit

I won't seem that fast then with 450lbs/ft

Looking at this list supradibbs had 598BHP and 447ft lbs, but most 600+ cars are in the mid 500 ft lbs

450 tq seems indeed a bit low.

To get 600 bhp, one has to run a nice tubbie with moderate boost, which should bring closer or above 500 torque I would imagine.

to get 600bhp there was no mention of cams at all?? and the tubbi used was a Gt35 if memory serves me right?

Its possible id say on a smaller turbo pushed hard, iirc Gaz1 had 614bhp and 490ftlb on a T67

Yup, that was stock cams at 1.8bar on a old style T67 dbb

So whats the factor on Torque Figures then?? as in why would it be low??

Its possible imo.

You could get 1 car that makes 450 ftlbs @ 5000 rpm & one car that makes the exact same torque only higher in the rpm range, say 6000 rpm.

So car 1 has 428 bhp & car 2 has 514bhp, nearly 90bhp difference. One that makes 450ftlbs @ 7000 rpm is 600bhp.

So depending on setup (turbo, cams etc) it's not too strange to have those figures, it's all about where the car makes it's torque in the rpm range.

Not much in it, 600bhp would just have it imo, once in the high revs the small loss in torque wont matter so much.

When im tearing through the gearbox my revs dont drop below 6200rpm on gear changes, well past where my torque has dropped off.

I had some boring diatribe featuring maths and stuff to post but Im not gonna bother lol

that amount of torque smaller or not is immense lol,perfect for a street set up isnt it...anything more than that and your a drag racer

The higher rpms allow you to gear down. As an example, imagine 2 cars both make the same torque, one at roughly 1500rpm higher than the other. They are side by side, obviously one car needs to be in say 3rd gear & 1 in 4th gear to maintain the same speed but keep each in it's peak torque area. They both put their foot down, the one in 3rd gear will pull away faster (obviously).
