Hike in fuel consumption!

I've just returned from a trip down south, filled the car up, 80 quid, and managed 515 miles before the reserve light :search:

Surely somethings not right! Most of the trip was spent at 80-90mph including a few asshole elimination manouvers.

According to http://www.fuel-economy.co.uk/calc.shtml it works out around 35mpg?

The only change I've made is a double de cat. Would this improve fueling on a long run?

Around the doors driving is still as bad as it always has been, around 20.

I did it in two runs, one there and one back.

Its an NA Aero, whole trip with top off.

I too was expecting consumption to increase with the decats.

Trip was flat mainly, untill the north east anyway!

Fuel consumption is still crap around town, ie I used a tenner's worth this morning having a play on the way to work.

If you can hold a steady speed (even if it is on the large side of 70) then you'll get good fuel economy.

The calculation is only correct if you were at the same petrol-level point before putting £80 in as you were when you "stopped the clock" at 515 miles. If the warning light wasn't yet on when you filled up with £80 it will give you reading that is over-optimistic.

Light came on, reset trip indicator, then filled it up, and took the reading of 514.something as soon as it came on again.

Thats more than my integra could pull out of a tankful.

That's mental! I get next to nothing out of mine (comparatively, of course). Drove 480 miles and that was about £130. This was last July so the petrol prices were 108.9 for V-Power.

That's 119.375 litres (26.26 (imperial) gallons) so I was getting 18.28mpg.

That was about 95% (or more) motorway driving as well.

Oh well!

i done 540 miles on £70 of fuel which i think is decent enough considering its a 3litre engine!

plus she is needing a full service so can imagine it been even better!

at what speeds? I was getting 515 at 80-90 leptons, the odd blast to 110.

In my NA I have only calculated my mpg twice... and each time I got around 17.6 mpg but I do tend to drive it like I stole it most of the time.

Best I have done is around 170 miles to half a tank... I havent done the calculations but i would like to think that is good. :) as I was driving like a granny doing 60 mph all the way there.

Cant believe I want a TT
