I have just been replacing the PCV and grommet and the old hardened grommet has slipped back and fallen into the block, what should I do please?

When you say in the block, do you mean you had the plugs out and it has gone inside the cylinder?

You may have to dismantle the cover when it's off from the inside as it'll prob be stuck in the cover.. Doubt it will be on the cams..

My vvti cover has filter or something that it fell on, I could see it with a torch, so used pliers..

if i was you hand turn the engine to TDC depending on what number cylinder it fell into then use a torch and long nose plyers and fish it out but do not for godsake start the engine or it will be a nice job to a mechanic and hefty price for you...
