Removing rear glass to paint

In the next few months I want to give the boot lid an overhall. Near the fog light paint is starting to peel slightly and when it was re-painted previously I dont think it was a glass out job and so around the glass seal it looks a bit crap at the moment.

So I am looking at getting it fixed up, I have heard that you can pay autoglass to remove the glass and they will fit it back in later and reseal it? Cant remember where I heard that but I did somewhere :)

Would it be cheaper to pay one of these glass places to fit the glass (and the aging rubber seal) or buy a genuine one from toyota and do it myself? (is it easy enough?)

Get it done properly by someone, its only about £50 + price of a seal. You want a genuine seal too. My boot lid had one of those aftermarket seals off a roll, crap. Those seals let water underthem at the bottom corners of the window and causes rust over time.

I paid around £48 for a new rear seal from toyota, when i do my bootlid, im just removing the seal, glass in and masked of, respray the bootlid, pop the seal back on with some sikaflex and job done. Dont need to remove the glass unless its rusting underneath it.

thats exactly what i'll be doing too, dont suppose you have a part number for the seal handy do you?

Ah the interesting "third way" :)

That sounds like a good solution actually, if the current seal removeable by hand or do I need a special tool for it? Is it a pain to seal the new one in place properly if I do it myself?

Cheers all, glad I asked now :)
