Noooo - you don't want to do that...the idea is to run out of petrol and not be able to work - therefore costing british industry billions of pounds in lost man/woman hours.

ie A week off work - tell the boss you can't get in cause of the petrol strike :)

If the whole country buys all the petrol out there to get through a strike period, would you not defeat the object and not cost the government and oil companies a penny?

Stock up on food, not fuel :D

Yeah but stuff everyone else I think protesting is a STUPID idea,

If I don't go to work I don't get paid, don't pay my loan, lose my car, lose my job, lose my house, die on the streets.

F*ck off if you think I'm gonna do that in the interest of 5p off petrol!! I'll stock up as much as possible, and eventually have to resort to riding to work and being 2 hours late.

Prime Minister Tony Blair's official spokesman insisted the premier would not intervene to halt price rises at the pumps.

When will they realise that its not the price of crude that is the main problem, its the amount of tax on it.

People these days are far more educated on tax matters than 10 years ago and they cant keep trying to fool us that the extortionate price we pay is down to the cost of crude.

I know many of you won't like this but why don't they put up tax on fags and alcohol? Or increase fines for certain things (I'd never suggest that cos it would obviously go straight on speeding fines!!).

Take more money for things that are 'bad', not things that everyone HAS to do every day!!!

Unfortunately untill the country has been brung to its knees the status quo of the government running rough shod over us will not change. Its a sad state of affairs that it has to come to this but bring it on I say. I am prepared to suffer a little in order to lower the cost of fuel if needs be. But more importantly with elections somewhere soon it will put in mind of all politicians that fuel costs are a big issue even if this bunch of arses stick their head in the sand over the issue.

OH NO not again.

This sucks big time

It really is not worth the considerable hardship and distress it causes a minority of society. All for a few pence a gallon.

I don’t know why there is all the fuss on here  a high performance car club of all places. We all drive gas guzzling monsters. If were we really that concerned about the cost of motoring we would have gas conversions and drive Micra's. If you want to save money use 95 octane fuel.

You can bet that the will be people moaning about the cost of fuel who later announce their latest £000+ mod. (Not aimed at anyone in particular – just a statement of fact) A tad hypocritical: flame Dev

Don’t get me wrong I would love cheaper fuel, but not and any cost, just think of those who don’t use cars who will be stuff when products don’t get to the shops etc. I think the organizers of this are bloody selfish.

If this goes ahead I could loose £1000’s, but I can afford it, so that is not the issue, but other who depend on me can not.

Controversial me no.

Please don't stop the fuel trucks again though, it takes the piss, no deliveries or anything, not worth the hassle for the gains IMO.

you have to make a stand to show them enough is enough. we work hard for what we get and they keep thinking of more ways to hurt you in the pocket. it would not be too bad if they froze the tax on petrol. they make more money the more it goes up.

how much does it have to go up by before people take action. you have only got so much money to play with each week.

I think a fuel protest (in the strongest manner) is the only way to show this government that we are fed up of paying stuipd amounts of tax on our petrol.

Can't believe that some of you are saying that you wouldn't support such an idea? I know everyone is entitled to their own views etc. but don't you think that the government are taking the pi$$ in the extreme with the amount of tax they slap in our faces every time we fill up?

It seems the only way to get something done in our country is to protest at it with big public support. They always used to say that Labour was a socialist party and now it really is showing through.

Yes we do drive sports cars and therefore even more reason to protest, as we like to use our cars, as we like to drive. The government want to lable the general motorist as the root of all the worlds problems and I would really like to see them change their attitude.

So what are you going to do if they don't reduce the fuel prices?

Leave the car at home forever?

Vote them out so someone else can cream off the profits and keep prices high?

I agree it would be nice to get lower fuel prices but at the end of the day it's like heroin to a junkie, the population needs petrol regardless of the price, if it doubled in price the majority of people would still buy it, they wouldn't be happy but they would buy it.

The government know we rely on fuel, they know the public transport system isn't up to offering a viable alternative to most people and they will continue to tax fuel at silly rates until they get voted out, then the next lot will do the same.

It's great that people want to stand up to the fuel costs and make a noise about it but I can't help thinking it's a waste of time, just like all the previous ones.

I saw a program last night that showed that the cost to produce and deliver the fuel in the following countries was thus:

England 18p

France 16p

USA 17p

Pretty similar wouldn't you say? This is how much we pay per litre, the difference between the two figures is tax:

England 89p

France 68p

USA 24p!!!!

They are now asking OPEC to speak to the neccessary countries to produce more crude oil, which in turn will produce more petrol, and help lower the price. What they don't mention is that our lovely government tax the production of petrol as well, and would gain alot of extra revenue in production taxes as a result.

This is suggested to be used to offset the extra 2p rise in September. FUCK THAT!! This should be used to reduce the cost of petrol to a reasonable price per litre by levying some of existing taxes.

You can see now its just lining the fat cats pockets, and funding them driving round in feckin great big Jags.

The thing is the tax on fuel pays for something now, be it fat cat jags, nice offices, new green leather in the H-o-Commons and so on.... they will still want all that crap so the money will be generated elsewhere, more than likely another tax that hits us just as hard.

The best solutions is to pack up and move abroad if it bothers you that much, personally I've just opted to stick my car up for sale so I can get something even more uneconomical and give them extra money :)

Its gonna be a big mistake to raise the level of fuel duty by 2p. A protest can certainly focus minds and bring the point home, but it isnt going to bring results. Yes, the government gets a fotune in tax from every litre sold, and the garages only get about 6p...

I heard this morning that if they cut fuel tax or dont put it up it would effect the health and education services... these are services that should be funded totally by income tax and not rely on top ups from other taxable sources... once again the motorist is paying for all other failings, just because we are easy pray, knowing that we cant do without vehicles for transport

It is this sort of mentality that allows the government to screw us. If everyone had this pathetic attitude rather than action, the world would be a rather sorry place!

Pathetic? Hardly!

Realistic, certainly!

OK Mr Activist Shah, you fill in your petitions, you protest, don't buy any fuel for a week and complain to everyone you know.... in 6 months come back to me and tell me how much cheaper your petrol is than mine and I'll get "pathetic" tattooed on my head.

It's all good and well standing up for what you believe in (and at the end of the day I also feel strongly about the cost of fuel due to the silly tax on it) but if all you are going to do is fill your car up a day early so that you "boycott" the garages and send a list of names to Downing Street I suspect your efforts are as "pathetic" as mine.

Good luck with reducing the cost of fuel, I wish you all the best.
