View Full Version : mStation MP3 (or NEO 35)
anyone tried a mStation mp3 player in their car ?
Not tried one of them but if you want mp3 id suggest one of the kenwood mp3 cd head units. Ive just got the Z838W and its the poodles privates!
Highly recomended, and Maybe if you have a quiet word with Matt Harwood when he comes back off holiday he can sort you one out. Much cheaper than a mStation!
I got the Kenwood 9512 MP3 playr.
It rocks.. U don't want/need any of that harddrive in car nonsense.. Believe me, i thought that was the route to go also. It ain't straight on a data cd. Lovely.
I can get an mStation for £230 and that gives me 10Gig and no more groping around for CDs in the car !
I've heard some mixed reports on the mStation but think that was all about their mk1 version.
I was saving the head unit till later - get something with satnav or such.

I have one in my Supra, I bought it real cheap and it was my first step into MP3 stuff so I thought why not. Sound quality is okay but you will hear the occasional hiss and harddrive sound. The operating system is kinda flaky as well so you have to turn the unit on/off quite often because it won't play or hangs. The display is unreadable in sunlight although there are people who have modified it to a black on green screen which is said to solve this problem. Build quality is also cheap. I bought mine for around 130 quid ex. VAT and frankly I don't think it's worth much more.
It has a 10GB capacity but the random function sucks and searching through the songs manually can be difficult because the screen is so hard to read. That also depends on where you have fitted the display and my dash is full so I couldn't fit it in an optimal location.
If I had to choose again I would go for a Kenwood headunit with the Music Keg although I don't know if that's available in Europe yet. You can also try and find a Rio Empeg secondhand. They are discontinued and can be had cheap if you can find one. The operating system of the Empeg is much more sophisticated than the mStation and the Empeg goes up to 60GB, enough to put your whole CD collection on it.

I've got a Archos Jukebox, it's about 4.5"x2.5" and so is fully portable unlike the car versions, I recommend it, especially since it has a massive 40GB of storage  :)
Flavio is yours a Mark1 or Mark 2 - I understand the Mark 2 now has backlit screen and many other improvements.
I actally forgot to add that i also have a mStation (the backlit one I think), not for the Supe though and I still haven't got around to installing it.

Well I now have an mStation mp3 player in the car - unfortunatley using the FM modultor but what the heck !
First impressions are great ! I'm not looking for top quality 'cos with the engine and road noise you probably wouldn't hear much of a difference anyway - having said that even though I'm running through the FM modulator it sounds good.
The one drawback so far is trying to find somewhere to mount the remote control (which unfortunately is wired)
So I now Have 10Gig of mp3 in the car - that should keep me going for a while !
