Optimum tyre size for 18x10 rear wheel

I am almost due for a pair of rear tyres now and currently have 275 35 18 Toyo Proxies T1-S on.

Looking at the rim itself I don't think it would be out of the way to fit a 285 or maybe a 295 (possibly pushing it a bit! rather than the current 275.

Has anyone had any actual experience with trying tyres of different sizes on the rears? For the sake of spending £250 odd I figured if possible and with no detrimental effects I may as well try for a bit more rubber. Not sure on brand yet, found Toyos and Eagles F1's to be pretty good so far.

Is there enough weight over the rear of the car to prevent any possible aquaplaning issues with a wider tyre and do you think they'd still get up to operating temperature easy enough under normal driving? I think the stock size was 255 or 265 wasn't it?

Any opinions?

Thanks

Dan

The size you have at the moment is correct for the diameter of rim to give the closest rolling radius as stock and the width or rim is spot on for the 275. I think trying to squeeze on wider rubber would compromise the handling, wouldn't do it myself.

I have 285/35/18 on my 10inch rims on the rear.

No problems for me.

As long as you keep good tread depth you shouldn't get any aqua-planing issues IMO.

You may get a slight error in actual speed reading but then they aren't 100% accurate anyway.

There was a website which calculated speed errors with different tye sizes somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out for ya.

You won't notice any handling issues unless your driving on a track IMO. How often are you likely to be 4 wheel drifting on public roads? Normal width balance for 285 on the rear will be 245 or 255 width on the front. But if you go wider than 255 on the front you may put too much strain on the power steering.

Thanks for the input so far guys much appreciated.

Anyone else got an opinion on 285 35's instead of 275 35's on and 18 x 10 rear wheel?

Not worried about speedo reading, that's not even off the rear wheels is it?

i went from 285 pirelli rears to 275 goodyears (they didn't make them in 285s) and hardly can tell the difference on my 18x10s.
