Import or UK car?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but what is the general census about imports?

Do you get an accurate description of the condition of the car, service history and mods if any?

With a UK car, you can check all these things and a lot of the time people from this or other forums sell their cars onto other members, so there is some piece of mind.

Just buy the best car tha meets your requirements - there are good and bad examples from the UK and Japan and many of the imports have been in the UK long enough now for salt to do it's thing.

Drive as many of each as you can and see what you like the feel of, often the J-Spec cars feel a little "Avensis" inside in basic trim, to some the UK handles like the Golden Hind... it's all relative and many things can be modified to tailor the car to your specific needs.

I'd generally go import, tend to be better condition (if you look in the right places as already mentioned), lower mileage and better bodywork as not been on salty roads. Also you get a lot more for your money with imports.

But it would still only be an import :innocent:

With less mileage, yes ;)

Talking about UK Spec & Imports I do love your Supra Michael, a mixture of both worlds!

I do hope you don't sell it as after the wedding I might sell mine for your one :)

What is the deal with the salty roads? I can't say I've heard about this before.

Is the underbody of the Supra very susceptible to rust or corrosion?

no its generally very good really, but the Uk's will have seen getting on for 15 UK winters now and the salt we use over here can take its toll.........you could probably make a case for the worst UK will be rustier than the worst Import but plenty of uk cars will be perfectly fine...............who needs a spotless underside anyway structural rust is almost unheard of I think?

I went for a UK car mainly on insurance reasons and getting the bigger brakes, injectors etc etc with the car

As said above its personal choice, looking back having spent 14k on a UK car 5 years ago I could have gone with an import already kitted/wide arch or single turbo for the same money. Really depends on what you want. :)
