Hi

Kieran here, 22 from surrey. Just joined the forum as i am considering buying a supra as my next car. I'm driving a 1.6 205 GTI at the moment, great fun to drive but getting to the stage where things are going wrong and its going to cost more to fix than its worth.

The plan is to possibly buy a nice N/A supra thats been well maintained (recent clutch, cam belt etc) and isn't going to cost a bomb to keep on the road (turbos).

So thats me, i will try a search and try not to ask any stupid questions that you have all heard a million times, hopefully i will decide to buy a supra in time and meet some other owners soon.

Welcome to the club, just to warn you any supra costs a bit to maintain and run fella.

Cheers for the welcome. I realise about the costs i just see the 205 turning into a bit of a money pit now so i think i need to quit while i'm ahead. Its going to be new engine and suspension soon and i am struggling to justify it. Thanks for the warning though, still looking into maintenance costs to get a better idea of things. Definatly not wanting to buy blindly.

I'm just down the road from Guildford in Godalming. i know a supra isn't going to be the cheapest car in the world to run but i would love to own one. I only drive 6 miles a day to work and back so its not going to run up any massive mileage.

Paying the membership seemed like a good plan. Its well worth the tenner and the welcome has been great so far. As i have said previously, if i am going to buy a supra i want to find out as much as i can first, before i take the plunge.

Where in surrey are you mate? Few members around surrey who can lend a hand if you decide to look at any cars! :)

Don't take him out in yours.....he won't want an N/A anymore:d

Anyway mate, if you only doing 6 miles a day the running costs aren't going to be that steep, I remember when I had my old N/A at one point I was spending £150 a week in petrol:blink:, I was doing rediculous miles though, but there are a few common faults on them like the crank pulley, but not that many 'expensive' fixes on N/A, it's when you have a TT that things start to get more expensive and then REALLY expensive when you go single.

There lots of helpfull people on here and plenty of advice to be given, be prepared to lose the 'chuckability' of a 205 though.

Yeah i'm not going to be doing loads of miles so less wear on the car, less money spent on fuel etc. Of course i would love a twin turbo but i can't really afford 7-10 grand right now. Or the huge bill if things go wrong. Plus i have no experience in 200+ bhp rwd cars, so a nice n/a will do fine for now.

Yes i will mis the drive of the 205 but i think it will be worth it.

Saw this today http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=212286

looks amazing, could well be one to have a look at.

Don't agree with the comments on the running costs of a Porche. They are not cheap to run that is for sure but you see the thread with the price of drive shafts for a Porche. Or brake disks etc for one .....

Had mine 9 years now and as long as you keep it serviced it ain't too bad cost wise
