Auto Gearbox Problem

i have a 94 N/A auto and im having a problem with the gearbox i think.

whats happening is when i put it in any gear when idle it will bite and cut out or it feels as if its changing as quickly as it can into top gear oil level is fine theres no nocks or bangs wining etc.

it also cuts out when approaching junctions etc so not safe:Pling:

any one got any ideas?

sorry dont know the root of the problem but as of next month my autobox will be available if it comes to needing a replacement

not too sure, but check all the vaccum pipes for splits as sucking in air can cause it to stall.

Do you have a delimiter or speed converter fitted, My GReddy Speed cut defender came loose one time after going over a bump in the road. so killed the speed signal to the ecu. the autobox did similar things until i re soldered the connection.

no aftermarket add ons and its still limited i just hope its not the box

Have you got any error codes? Im not sure the gearbox is causing the cutting out. I know it may be stupid, but did you check the oil level in P with the engine running?

Have you checked the ATF fluid level using the correct method? Warm fluid,(20 miles) gear lever moved through all gears, leave engine running then check in PARK as mentioned above.

sounds like a failed/incorrectly installed delimiter or speed converter...when they fail, they can do this often...might be worth double checking if you have one fitted behind the speedo/odo. some ive seen, are attached on the gearbox wiring too near the rear of the box?

had the dash out to spray no signs of tamper i have checked the oil using the correct method.

i had to launch the car up the drive by launch i mean nuetral rev and jump into drive its not good i know but i was stuck.

the weird thing is it works fine now after the hard launch yet its still lumpy through 2nd and my smooth changes have gone and been replaced with a sharp surge when it changes? its goin to an auto gearbox specialist on tuesday to see if they can diagnose the fault im hoping its a dodgy sensor.

Have you checked the gearbox fault codes. I would do this before you spend money on an specialist that's for sure.

Ane way you check engine codes. But the O/D light flashes instead of the engine warning light.

The signal from the speed sensor after it leaves your speedo passes through the odometer. The odo meter can somehow corrupt this and cause the symptoms you are describing. I had exact symptoms with mine. There is a wire you can cut and splice which will take the buffering part of the odometer out of the loop. I cant remember what pins wire etc it is but I discovered this and when I tried it on mine it 100% cured my gearbox problem. I think it was a pink wire but do a search and sure you will find it.

However that wont cure your cutting out. Mine did go through a spate of cutting out at junctions etc and after reading the fault codes it reckoned that the signal from the TPS had not been there all the time. I simply cleaned the connections to the TPS and the fault cleared and the fault code never re-appeared.
