Single Turbo Prices??

Hay all.

Ok a month or 2 ago i posted up a post asking what the price for a single turbo conversion would cost.

Most of you were saying depending on what set up you go for your looking at £10k + , and my local motorsport tuner said he can do it for £8k as he can use the STD supra ecu and still get the good BHP figures as hes done quite a few of them.

But im just wondering were all the prices build up?

Iv been looking on the Whifbitz website and came accross this kit

http://garagewhifbitz.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=8739&category_id=2606&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

Im just wondering were the other £5 - £6k goes to? Surly cant be labour as that would be around an avage of 100 hours!

Do they really take that long to do?

Thanks

Paul

You can't use the stock ECU unless you want a really really small single (400-450hp), and for it not to run optimum.

Single kit 3k

ECU & Mapping 2k

Injectors £500

Clutch £500

Fitting 1.5k

New Seals £100

New Belts £100

New Oil Pump £130

New Water Pump £130

Odds & Sods £1k

Stock ECU, can you elaborate? Were they intending using a piggyback ECU?

not sure mate! i said about goin managment but he says he has used the std ecu on many sigle conversions , would be over the 500BHP mark i would have thought or it would be pointless!

As Rob says, if you are considering doing a single turbo conversion it is vital that you know all the details and are aware of exactly what you are getting for your money.

I've no doubt the turner you asked can do a conversion for £8K, but unless you know exactly what parts they are using there is no way of knowing what you are getting for your money and how successful in terms of reliability and power the conversion will be.

As an example if I was planning a single turbo conversion on a completely stock manual Supra with a power goal of around 500-600hp (flywheel), this would be the list of parts I would budget for. Parts would all be quality branded items, no cheap Ebay junk.

Turbo Kit

Turbo Blanket

Front Mounted Intercooler

Blow Off Valve and Flange - welding required.

Cams - optional

Adjustable Cam Gears - optional

Exhaust

Oil Cooler

Radiator - I'd budget for a new one just in case.

Fuel Pump - in tank.

Fuel Injectors - drop in injectors using stock fuel rail.

Clutch

Standalone ECU, Harness, Sensors and Mapping

Oil Lines, Fittings and Catch Tank

Boost Controller

Boost Gauge

Oil Pressure Gauge

Fuel Pressure Gauge

AFR Gauge

Gauge Pod

Spark Plugs

Oil

Oil Filter

its all the little extras you dont budget for that cost the most. I was totally shocked when I did the conversion on my Blue supra and added up the price of all the little bits, such as braided lines, vac lines, IC pipework, heat wrap nuts and bolts, fittings, gaskets etc etc etc.
