Hi Stall TC ???

Just wondered what the deal is when you put the Hi Stall torque converter in your BL box?

 

all i "thought" it did was allow you to rev to 3,800 rpm with your foot on the brake just before a launch? therefore building up loads of power and yout off?

 

BUT....what does it do to the driveability? like everyday driving around town.....

does it feel any different from stock?

will it be a worse drive at low speeds?

does it make the turbo come in later?

 

 

any BL auto owners with Hi Stall TC care to share please? (or anyone who knows!!!)

I had one and for driving around town it was awful. Different to stock? Yes, like chalk and cheese. A worse drive at low speeds? Depends on how low you are talking but imagine driving in town with a 6 speed manual and depressing the clutch half ways down so that it slips like a biatch - that's what it feels like :(

How the car drives is really down to how well the converter is made. In normal around town driving a good TC should feel very much like stock. It will slip a little all the way up to the stall limit. As the limit has now been raised the converter slips for longer so generates much more heat, hence the need for additional cooling. The really big advantage is you can power break and build boost so you are off the line with much higher power levels going to the wheels.
