Sticky seatbelt

My drivers seatbelt doesn't retract as well as it used to, does anyone have any tips for improving it or is a new unit in order?

Cheers Martin, I searched for all sorts of seatbelt jamming/sticking related stuff & couldn't find anything

here we go, i knew id seen 1 somewhere. Should be an easy task for a man of your talents

Quickest solution is to swap it with mine... I'll be round in an hour mate

Or you could clean it with a soapy water & then dry it properly, it will get all that gunky stuff out of it.

The belt did feel a little damp that side as I'd been doing stuff in the car with the door open when it was raining

I got a quote from Toyota last year for a new drivers seatbelt, IIRC it was only something like £40 - £50.

good thing supra belts dont have electrics in them, probly why there cheap

Have you tried just pulling it out to the fullest extent and then feeding it back slowly. Do it a few times and see if it helps at all.

Right was up early today to fix this. Not sure if my issue was the same as everyone elses, basically no matter how far out the seatbelt was it wasn't returning easily (not like it was just loosing springiness the further out it came). It was jamming everytime the roll reveolved.

So I removed it, bit oil into centre of the coil & hey presto free seat belt again

Didn't even need to remove the 1/4 panel as I have no speakers & could access the belt from the speaker cover

I have one second problem mentioned in the Supraforums thread. The belt is sometimes saggy, but if you click the release button it tensions !

They suggest cutting the elec wire to the reel.

Somebody has then asked if this will effect the seatbelt-airbag system (but this question was not answered) !

Is the seatbelt connected to the airbag system does anybody know.

Seems like a quick fix, but I hate the thought of cutting wires that are connected with safety systems unless it's 100% OK.

Glad you fixed it, just suggested this as sometimes it's the simple things that work..

Will have to remember this tip for when mine go the same way.

so the belts dont sag now either?

i think this is a common problem as mine do the same. They pull out ok, lock ok, but when you release them, they don't recoil properly. you have to "feed" it back in.
