bodilx6
I'm looking into getting new wheels that will clear UK/EU brakes. I've found the TTE wheel (attached) and various other specials produced specifically to my needs/meassures (forgeline) as well as some VOLK/RAYS/GRAM lights. These will be in the range of £2500-4000 Now, the TTEs are nice and relatively cheap (aprox £1500) but also rather heavy (25,5lbs @ 18x8.5 and 27lbs @ 18x10) I can save 4.5lbs-6.5lbs pr wheel getting VOLKs or the others. Also, TTEs should be a rather weak wheel in relation to potholes and such. Now, the question is how much of a gain 5lbs +/- pr wheel will be in general performance. Will I even notice a difference as i use my car for normal daily driving and trips to Nürburg twice a year? I seem to remember having read some trustworthy info somewhere on how much unspring weight affect performance but I cannot remember where... jevansio
It's hard to say, I changed my 12.5kg 19" wheels with 295/30/19 tyres to 10kg 18" wheels with 285/30/18 tyres. The only other change I made was seats (static weight) which were about 25kg lighter. My 30-130 dropped from 11.5 sec to 10 sec, quite a drop. I don't know how much the change in tyre size had though. I am made keen on light wheels, the benefits (whatever they may be) are in favour of lighter wheels, acceleration, braking & handling will all benefit.
