RLTC good investment?

Hi guys,

 

Have been pondering the addition of the race logic traction control unit onto my supra. I know its a 'fairly' standard upgrade to sups, but was just wondering what people who have had it installed think of it?

 

Good investment/improvement?

 

My supra's a tt bpu running 1.2 bar on stock turbos - occasionally get the odd bit of spin and snaking in first and second on damp roads when i put my foot down. im obviously not running huge power so will i still feel the benefits of this kind of an upgrade??. - pulled the fuse on my faulty stock traction a while back now so dont really know what to expect of a decent traction control system.

 

Also has anyone got the launch control? is it any good?

 

Was just hoping to get some opinions/ reviews before i went and took the plunge. :)

In my (apparently unpopluar) opinion, get the car to the power level and learn to drive and control it in low grip conditions, for at least a year or so. If you feel that you want to make more of the power then RLTC is a good move, but it's by no means fool proof.

 

In terms of a trac control system it's very good. Just don't drop into the mindset that it will save you in all conditions, it can't overcome basic physics :D

 

I never felt the need for it, whether stock, BPU or single

not true - plenty of threads offering opinions too.....just need to search.

 

You cant make people think they need to search for everything, if you just post "search" new members will be scared to start threads.

 

Without new threads there is no forum and ive not seen anyone mention rltc in a long time, new opinions and all that;)

I also think things should be reposted at least 5 times before someone can claim 'REPOST'.

 

As for the RLTC thing, I rarely go round corners now without it cutting in. Which leads me to believe that I am going too fast around corners or I need new tyres. Either way I'm glad I have it!!!

A quick search reveals all the info on the general subject (search facility in my view is very efficient) so thought it was a wise suggestion to save the chap a lot of time, having said that, I do agree that it is not something that has been discussed as of late.

 

Now had he asked for a ride in a car with RLTC properly configured - that would have considered that a NEW thread. :)

 

I have RLTC in my car and it rarely comes on, perhaps I am driving the car like a granny or I have learnt how to handle the ponies. I use it as a safety measure like pointed by some others before.

I appear to have possibly given the wrong impression about my driving capabilities! :)

 

Im not too shabby round a track. track experience in an ac cobra, 6 litre corvette, Lamborghini countach and a diablo. Road experience in a ferrari 360 and a very respectable 650 brake gtr33. not that im name dropping :p

 

But seriously im no professional driver by a long shot but im fairly experienced over the years in powerful motors.

 

r33 has no problem putting its power down with its 4wd. however even with the much lesser power of my sup it will spin readily - and to be honest im not big on powersliding around round-a-bouts... rather save that for track days- and my sups not a track car.

If it's cutting in during normal driving then you are either driving too fast for the conditions or your car has something that needs looking at.

 

What I'm getting at is that advanced traction control can mask other issues - be it the driver or the car. It should only cut in when you intend it to, otherwise, refine your driving/car.

First thing id look at is a decent geo setup and a good set of tyres before rltc, a good geo setup alone by somebody such as wheels in motion can have a huge effect on traction if your settings are out.:)

Yes it's more a case of me testing it each time I go out to make sure it's working ;)

Kind-of was my thinking on the matter also....

 

 

But ill work on my search skills to keep all the 'seen this - discussed that , bought the t-shirt' club oldies happy.;)

Had the full geo setup done not to long ago by a very reputable company not to far from me. all adjustable aspects tweeked. improved cornering stability imensely. resulting thrust angle of 0.01.

 

the handlings not to bad. just wondered if an aftermarket unit would help it put the power down more smoothly on the roads.

Feltham Tyres. (name isnt as impressive as quality of work...)

 

they seem to be the only place in my local area willing/capable of adjusting camber caster and toe.

 

They also have software, which has the stock j-spec setup margins, which can then be adjusted for your particular wheels measurements and suspension height.

 

Im sure other places have this to its just that I haven’t found another yet that appear to know what there talking about!

I love RLTC :D, when used properly it can make an average driver look good and good driver look brilliant, lets be honest guys we aren't all driving gods and i will be the first to admit i only really learnt to slide a car properly with the confidence that RLTC brings.

As for "real men dont use it", from a standing start i have a built auto, hi stall, good tyres, 500hp and RLTC which means i have beat every single car off the mark i have come up against, some may say wheres the skill in that, but i would rather win every time than get beat "driving like a man" to some smirking A hole in his BM, Merc, Porker (all of which have a far more sophisticated traction control system). To me RLTC is just another tuning mod such as UK spec brakes and worth every penny

Everyones a fantastic driver until they powerslide into a lampost! then it allways something about phantom diesel spills or jittery hicas systems...lol.. (anyone who owns a skyline knows what im talking about!) :rolleyes:

Not wishing to take the piss fella, but you really need to take the car to a specialist to get the geo done. Feltham do just do a basic setup based on stock setings, it's an utter waste of money. As soon as the wheels, suspension springs, dampers or weight distribution is changed the stock settings are as good as junk. Get it to a place that actually understands geo and sets the car up to it's own specification. It will make a world of difference, take it from me and the many others that have had their cars set up properly. Wheels in motion shouldn't be too far from you.
