fuel pump insulating

Self fusing silicon tape. Does exactly what it says on the box. I suppose it's like a very viscous gel. I'm looking at a roll of the stuff as I type. Never tried it on the terminals of a fuel pump but there's always the first time... hang about just checked chemical resistance charts and silicon rubber isn't too clever with petrol. Scrub that idea.

fuel hose sleeve, good idea. I was thinking of some kind of sleeve but not sure what is fuel proof.

I will go to halfords and see what they have to offer

He means use some small bore fuel hose AS a sleeve, Halfrauds or AllParts should have some in stock ;)

job done. I used fuel hose in the end.

A word of warning to anyone searching for this in future, insulation tape is not a good idea. I put it on yesterday thinking it would be fine until I order some heat shrink, today when I got the pump out again the tape was just like plastic with a gooey mess on where the glue should be. 24hrs and it has turned to useless plastic, do not use even as a quick fix.

Picture attached of what I ended up with.
