Respray under way

A couple of months back I posted that my car had been involved in a motorway pileup. Luckily it was only bodywork damage but with the car having had a custom paint job 18 months ago, it was going to be expensive.

I contacted the insurance firm (Greenlight, who use LV) and they were kind enough to sort it out even though the other guys insurance will eventually pick up the tab.

First off they sent an appointed approved local repairer but once they heard about the hand mixed paint blend they didn`t fancy trying to match half a car so declined the work:imsorry:

They asked me to get some quotes but I went to some of the biggest (and very expensive) body specialists and they all ran a mile. I guess that they all want to respray a BMW or Merc with a standard off the shelf colour for easy money.

Anyway, I got a quote from the original painter along with a recommendation from the paint supplier that the car needed to be completely resprayed as it would be impossible to match the custom hand mixed sparkle finish.

They agreed.:ecstatic: Might have been due to the 5k cost being small beer compared to the brand new Jag and Merc written off in the same accident.;)

The car has been in for a couple of weeks now and the bodywork repairs and priming work has now been completed. He is due to do the first colour coats this weekend (Nightmare blue sparklescent) and he will be ready to do the sparkle coats next week.:D I will have to go down for the day because the custom mixed sparkle coats make or break the paintjob. Dependant on the mix and number of coats, the car can look completely different.

I will post up some pics as soon as it is done.
