I have a strange tracking kind of problem

When I drive in a straight line on a flat road the car doesn't pull in any direction, goes perfectly straight.

When I pull up to traffic lights nice and slow on a flat road it is fine.

When I pull up to trafic lights if there is a dip in the road the steering wheel turns into the dip when I am going slow (don't have to be breaking). This also happens when I am driving slowly if I go down a bit of a dip. The direction changes dependant on which way the dip is.

I know powersteering sometimes does this, but it is sometimes as much of a turn as three quarters of a steering wheel turn.

Anyone ever had a problem like this before?

Chris Wilson would be the one to ask. I have similar issues but not to the extent you are mentioning.

It's called tramlining. A car with wide tyres will do this more notcibley that a car with skinny ones. The lower the profile of the tyre, the more you'll feel it.

If you've noticed it more recently but haven't changed anything, check your tyre pressures.

hmm. I don't really have wide tyres though. 245 front and 265 rear. Standard I think.

I think stock is 225f and 255r

I would checkthe balljoints for play and get the alignmentchecked out.

I think if castor is out of spec it would do a similar thing.

castor? is that park of the ball joint?

No, it's a area of adjustment similar to tracking.

silly question but you still get idiots with different makes of tires. all four tires the same are they

All 4 dunlop, but the rears are different to the front.

I have sp9000 on the back and sportmaxx on the front. Should be fine as long as the fronts are both the same and the rears are both the same though shouldn't it? That is what I have always thought in the past and have never had a problem

I always find I notice it more in mine in the wet, is this the difference for you too? Saying that, my current car doesn't do it as much as my old red one did, probably down to adjustable coilovers and reset geometry to suit the wheels.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but did you manage to find the root cause of this problem?

Im having the exact same issues, alignment is spot on and tires and shocks are good.
