Supra Vs Evo8: best Daily Driver

hey guys!

first post after doing a lot of reading here.

I learned a lot but i can not find the answer i am looking for lol.

I have never owned a RWD or AWD car before, so any of those cars will be a first for me.

But i just moved to the UK couple month ago, and i was so scared of the small roads, and since i never owned anything bigger than Hatchbacks i bought me a mini.

Great little car, So slow but easy to drive around and park.

 

Now, please advice me.

I am torn between an Evo8 or a Supra TT.

I will be doing just basic mods on both.

What would be the easiest car to use daily, what about the rain, or snow. Do you find yourself driving in circles for ever to find a parking spot on the streets? what about reliability.

 

Would u get the evo for DD and supra for fun, or other way around?

 

Btw, any good shop around Bournemouth area? or locals i can chat with.

hope you guys can help me lol, all i can do all day is think about that.

ps: Financially, the supra is cheaper to buy and cheaper to insure too

The evo is by far the more practical car.

 

I don't drive mine daily, it's a toy to me, but you could use an evo as anything you want.

 

I'd certainly go for an Evo8 over a supra if you're wanting something that will tick all boxes.

 

It comes down to cost in the end however, and you can pick a non-turbo supra up for pennies.

I find running on broken legs easier than driving the Supra in in heavy rain or snow.

Only if it's dark! in the Supra i turn into a girl as soon as it turns dark. I lose the ability to reverse because i can't see jack out of the back window and with the fat back end i can't judge the distance of anything in the mirrors.

Isn't the service interval for an Evo 8 quite small? Mileage wise etc. A stock TT I would have thought would have been cheaper to run. Evo 8 would probably be more comfortable in the roads around our area with having a more modern suspension setup.

 

There's a couple of places that do servicing. If you get a UK spec you can also get Toyota dealership in Poole to work on it (admittedly this will not be cheap). Otherwise for real specialist work you're really going to be looking outside of Dorset for things supra specific I would say.

 

Triton Motorsport over by Hurn Airport way are a general Jap Garage who mainly do Scooby stuff but they can do servicing, have a RR and can work around a turbo charged engine with the fundamentals.

I could afford both. but i just got no where to park them :(

Since i am new to the UK, was in florida, i amalso new to the MOT... i surprised you guys are doing so many mods and passing it...

Hmm, trying to think who locally owns a grey TT. There's SimonB but I'm unsure if he's still rebuilding his. I think MRX bought another one but cannot recall the colour.

 

Ahh, parking may be an issue but if you live down a quiet street in Bournemouth I don't think you'll have an issue. Then again I've only owned 2 cars and they've both been Supras, so quite frankly you get used to parking it and it's easy enough in car parks etc. It's just the other inconsiderate motorists around but you're going to suffer them no matter what car you buy :taped:

 

MOT you only have to worry about if you're removing both cats from the car. You could buy sports cats if you're that worried.

 

Driving around the county the only issues you're going to have are some of the multi-story carparks if you're going to get a modified one with clearance issues.

 

Don't be concerned about bad handling in the wet, unless you're pushing it beyond the limits of grip to kick the back end out on purpose, that's down to the driver and not faults with the car. If it's slipping and sliding around in the wet in a dangerous manner within the speed limits in any RWD car then that's a fundamental grip/suspension setup issue. Good tracking, good suspension and good tyres and you won't have anything to worry about.

 

Snow... well now that's another matter. Just got to be cautious.

 

Where abouts in Bournemouth are you bud? Could pop by and see you sometime. Mine's not a TT any more though..

I'm guessing from that list that you may not leave a TT stock for long...

 

If you're into modifying, I'd say TT for sure. Evo 8 yes you can modify, but it just won't give as much bang for buck.

Well I'll let you know next time I'm heading down Boscombe Pier way. I keep meaning to check out the reef in decent weather.
