overfilled autobox

would an overfilled autobox affect its operation or is it only harmful in that it could ruin the seals?

I think if its overfilled the box will have trouble changing gear,if thats any help.

i had 2 Lt to much in mine and it changed fine only the oil when hot would get blown out the breather at the top of the box and cover the exhaust

my gear changes arent smooth-it clings onto the gear too long then changes with a jerk.also it changes down quickly when you accelerate fairly lightly almost like kicking down.

It will probably overheat, foam the oil, blow a seal or generally *ugger itself up. It needs correcting, assuming you are measuring the level correctly? Autos are checked with THE ENGINE IDLING in Park.

thanks chris. i will check it again.when i checked it the engine wasnt running.oil was 3 inches over the hot level.

It MUST be checked running, it will be WAY over the line with the engine off as the torque converter drains back over half its oil capacity back into the sump, and it holds a lot of oil.

thanks again chris- read dipstick when engine was running and its ok so problem must be due to some other fault.

Just found your lazy up change, jolts into gear thread.

Has it got a speedo converter on it? I would try removing it and putting the wiring back to stock as a quick test.

Does it do anything else, like have too fast an idle speed, or hesitations? A wrongly set throttle position sensor could do this, too.

fwiw, autog/box need the correct grade and level of oil for correct operation, incorrect fluid levels can cause a number of issues in the way they perform, such as delayed changes, jerks between selections, rattling noise (if level is low) etc.

LOL, cr*pped myself when it first happened to me during a spirited drive, thought I had broken something. Been fine since I drained a litre out.
