View Full Version : Overboost on decat on Uk TT!?
I have a UK spec MKIV TT...
Just installed a HKS Super Dragger, and have a decat pipe on order to replace cats 1&2, will I need a restrictor ring, or other boost reducing application to prevent overboosting, or will I be OK on the UK spec!?
(Have a greddy BCC and EVC5 ready to fit too)
Decat is a 3'' downpipe replacing cat 1&2
You will be fine, with a exhaust and full decat, only a FCD is required on Uk-specs. You probably won't see over 1 bar with this setup, so you can use a EBC/bleed valve to up it a bit. :)
i have a nur spec R and full 3" decat and boost to just over .8 bar, i have had the car cut out a couple of times but i think that was due to old plugs (replaced now) and maybe the problem with the sequential thing, but it has not cut out since!
that reminds me i need to do more tweeking!
I too run a UK with full decat and a suoer dragger. Like Syed says you'll be fine witout a restrictor ring but if you're wanting to up the boost a bit a FCD (Pete Betts are recognised as being spot on) will be needed to avoid fuel cut. A bleed valve is a simple and reliable way (not to mention was Yorkshire man friendly cheep !) to increase the boost which you shoul be safe in doing so up to around 1.2 -1.3 bar. Prepare to fall in love with your car again big time :) .
That's good news about the boost level, I've already bought a Greddy BCC, didn't know about the TRL a the time, went for the Greddy simply because there are some very straight forward install insructions on the American site.
Should be getting the downpipe I ordered from the States sometime early next week so looking forward to going faster :)
I'm with Tescos insurance anyone know how much (approximately) my policy should go up.
Thanks

Hmmm, the similarities continue :) !!. I was also with Tesco when I fitted my Super Dragger,I declared it and they asked me if it was a performance modification and I stated the the reason for fitting it was that the O.E exhaust had rotted away and it was just a replacement. Thay way they had it on their records but there was no premium loading. Result :) .
How come you ordered the decat from the states? Long way for it to go when some are made here, good prices and quality. :)
My car was with Tesco, the exhaust added a very small amount, <£50 IIRC.

Exactly what I did with mine too - Admiral though - the OEM was too expensive to replace so I got a replacement from Japan which was half the price - which was true :)
Ordered my downpipe from the States cos of the price really, replaces both cats, full 3'' stainless Megan pipe from the turbo back, compatible with UK O2 sensor, including express delivery for £130, the exchange rate at the moment is still pretty good.
That's a useful tip for Insurance, the stock had rotted.... Nice one (that was actually pretty much true anyway!) Would it work If I said that the stock fire extingusher in the boot had rotted so I replaced the bottle with NOS :)
Later...
Tescos wanted a £1k a year extra outta me for a ex pipe and wheels. worth a total of £3.5k
cost me £78 with Tesco back in 2002 as I stated that performance increase was less than 10%
:stupid:
so at what point does fuel cut come in on a uk car?
thanks Syed
I,m running 14.8 and not getting any fuel cut?
I'm fitting my Greddy Boost Cut controller to stop the fuel cut problems with my decat pipe, anyone know the best voltage to calibrate it to on a UK TT.

I'm going trough a claim at the minute with tesco's and they are giving me all kinds of grief over mods.
I declared everything, and i mean everything, even down to the turbo timer, which the untrained gibbon at the other end of the phone put down as a engine chip on my policy even after i explained what it did to him.
now they saying i didn't declare all the modifications, I wouldn't recommend tescos for modified car insurance, or any insurance actually. they just underwrite for DirectLine/Bank of scotland so when it comes to getting a claim sorted their systems and procedures are a mess. took me 4 weeks to get my car inspected!plus a 3rd party claimed against me and i only found out 8 months later after tesco had paid out without telling me and nicked my no claims. Scoundrells!
