Is 400bhp genuine from jap tt?

Folks , have read many replys on here and get conflicting results !

 

Supra TT 400bhp?

 

Is as quite a few advertized cars for sale proclaim it possible to get 400bhp from a tt set up is that bpu only?

Or is that possible from boost upgrade on standard jap spec turbos , im assuming its fly wheel bhp and defo not rwbhp?

 

What realistic maximum reliable bhp could standard TT create?

 

On purchasing such a car would you ask for a compression read out as regards its condition and print out as proof of actual bhp?

 

Getting very close to purchasing a Supra now !

 

So would appreciate any comments on above greatly.

BPU is essentially just raising the boost on standard Turbos. Yes 400BHP is achievable at BPU though. But yes you're right, it's flywheel and not wheel HP.

Being as I am very much still learning... I take it HP through the wheel is less than as measured at the flywheel due to frictional forces and other mechanical energy losses?

HP at the flywheel is HP at the engine, and is estimated by taking the HP at the wheels and multiplying it by an 'accepted' coefficient taking into account transmission losses.

 

HP at the wheels is the force the wheels exert on the road itself.

 

You can also have HP at the hubs, which removes the elastic effect of tyres.

At 1.2bar 380-400hp (flywheel) is achievable, with additional modifications such as cams, ECU, etc. max on stock j-spec turbos is around 430hp (flywheel).

 

Dyno of mine when it was running stock turbos in parallel, with supporting mods.

Just to add... and this is only from a tuners... not from my experience...

 

Abbey MotorSport stated to me that with a HKS fuel Rail,UK spec injectors, 1 x walbro and a Boost Controller I would be able to push 500 - 550bhp from the stock engine.. at the fly....

 

I personally would say that for that figure I would have needed Cams and a De-cat too.... I was already running, lightened Flywheel, HKS Super Dragger, FCD, HKS Mushroom etc.... just small time stuff..... and even the 550bhp I feel would need a bit more work.... but they are Jap car specialists.... Who knows...!!!!

I've never once seen a car on stock sized (even hybrid) turbos make more than 460bhp at the flywheel. Why would you need an HKS fuel rail with UK spec injectors? Some very conflicting and frankly incorrect information there.

From the stock engine yes, from the stock turbos no.

If you read the US forums they'll tell you it is. Take all their figures with a pinch of salt and treat their RWHP figures as flywheel.

Sounds like they've been reading Supraforums too.

One or two hybrid turbo set ups I do know have been pushing 500BHP, Terry S' old car for one, and Ian C's I believe was in the upper 400's before going single. But they were exceptions to the norm and many other supporting mods and rather special hybrids it seems.

Before my time I'm afraid - that's impressive! Do you know if they used nitrous? Certainly those two guys know their Supras :)

As I said folks.... I was just given that info.. I don't necessarily believe in it...

 

I have heard of the Twin Turbo's closing the 500bhp gap tho.... Supporting mods I would say are essential.... I cant see any other way of getting that power.... I would guess a good ignition amp would also be required to complement higher boost levels / better spark for the larger fuel requirement....

Might do on abbeys dyno, its a hub dyno the same as thors and tdi's;)
