Twin air filters?

Granted there will be more filter surface area, but would that not be negated by the turbulance created when the two air streams meet and isn't their REAL limit the turbo? The diameter of the two turbo's are about 35-40mm the stock intake has 80mm across. In cross sectional areas the 2x 40mm does not equate to the amount of air in an 80mm cross section.

The stock tubing is plenty big enough for all up to hybrids...and the surface area of the stock filter is greater still.

But to get back to the point - 1+1 will not = 2 in this case. :)

Also, the custom pipe with both filters on would be before the UK MAF sensor, more air more fuel. JSpecs don't have this of course so might not be much difference on them :)

Eh - but the air has to get through the MAF....which is still the same size!

The air filters arnt pulling in the air, they just restrict the the flow of air by filtering.

By restricting the air there must be a pressure difference, which we dont want.

2 air filters would allow the same amount of air in with less pressure difference, therefore less stain/restriction on the turbos that are doing the pulling, which should lead to more air. As far as turbulence goes and how far the air has to travel i dont know how much of an effect this would have, some i'm sure.

All a bit specultive i suppose.

I think it probably would make a very slight diffence, but having a dump before you get in your car also helps your power to weight:D

My 2p's worth

PS. didnt read it before i sent it so i'm sure there'll be something a miss:stupid:

The cylinders suck in the air. They suck it in through the induction system. They will suck the same volume no matter whether you have one or ten air filters.

What matters is the mass of air they get, and this will depend partially on pressure losses in the intake system.

Yes, there will be a pressure drop across the air filter but I thought most people accepted that even one aftermarket makes only a marginal difference, so two will make even a more marginal-er difference.
