Why are so many modified?

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't see the logic in heavily modifying such a quick and beautiful car. :(

I'm not very fond of modifications especially in cars like this. However, sensible engine and chassis mods that actually enhance performance are fine by me. Also subtle aftermarket wheels and body kits looks superb.

Not a fan of in-your-face body kits though. Also not a fan of extreme engine mods unless of course you are planning to drag race or track the car ;)

But like the poster above said, it depends on the individuals taste (and money). It's a bit like marmite!

As for big single conversions, I can see the appeal and if I had the ££££ going spare I'd probably have it done.

However as far as the bodystyling goes, some modified cars looks great but IMO, the Supra needs nothing more than the active aero in the down position and a set of OEM side skirts.

However the vast majority if modified examples I tend to see are not my cup of tea and make me appreciate my stock car far more each time.

For someone that only posted yesterday saying they wanted an orange de-spoilered supra isn't the sad face on your post a bit of a contradict? ;)

Looks wise I can't understand why people spend so much money making their supra's look worse, subtle mods are one thing but some of the cars on here are simply hideous. Performance is another matter and a very slippery slope, but one which delivers so much more enjoyment from the car.

Depends what you mean by "modifiying" I suppose.

I am doing a bit of a restoration project on my N/A, but I don't want the original DIN decks in there, I have an iPhone compatible stereo!

Some mod to update and upgrade, some mod to make it their own.

I doubt there will be many unmolested supras around in 50 years though.

Everyone's different.

If we all strived for the same thing and didn't have our own personal distinctions I think it'd be a very boring world. You don't see everyone going to work in a black pin-stripe suit and white shirt, even though it's a nice combo at times if the cut's right. The Supra is nice as stock, as are many cars, nice to look at and well engineered but humans strive to improve/fettle. It's our nature.

There are the purists, stock and untouched.

There are the stealthy, wolves in sheeps clothing.

There are the subtle, modified but quiet

There are the extroverted, modified and proud at the forefront.

Then there are chavs.

There's a place for everyone there.

I hope you enjoy your stay here on the forum and eventually get to a car where you can say 'Yes, I am proud of that'. Glad to see you're asking a lot of questions rather than remaining ignorant. But do use the search button more and also read a lot more threads, I think nigh on everything is covered in this forum in one way or another bar new innovations or people with £££ to push the boundaries.

There was a rumour, around the time that production stopped, that unknown buyer had bought 40 MKIV's. There will always be those who want to own a car that is in the same condition and spec as it left the factory, so there will be an unmolested MKIV or two around in 50 years. I expect it will become a classic car at some point.

Paint doesn't count as a huge modification and nor does taking a spoiler off :p

I just thought it was strange that this car more than others I've seen get modified...

Any change from the manufacturers spec is a modification bud. Lots of "one rule for me" members already.

You think the supra gets modified more than any other car? You must wear blinkers then. This is one of the least modified cars i have ever owned, not mine in particular obviously. Every other forum i have been a part of has had very very few un-modified examples. There are loads here that are either untouched or very very subtlely modded.

Where to begin...

Ford Escort, Corsa, Calibra, MR2, Sunny GTi-r, GTR, 106Gti

The citreon saxo is THE most over modified car on the planet. Think it got awards for it.
