Cam covers

I am going to take off my cam covers and powdercoat them, I have read on various posts that they are easy to remove but is there and outer and an inner?

If I take off the covers am I going to leave two big holes into the engine with oil for all to see? or is there an inner section that is the actual seal?

Only reason I ask is that one post I read seems to mention an inner section that is silicone sealed while all others say the covers are easy to get off.

They are "easy" to get off but you will leave the cams exposed and oilways open for small children to climb into.:)

The seal is on the bottom of the cam cover and may well have hardened and be brittle. I replaced my gaskets when I polished my covers.

Yes, when you remove the covers it will expose the Cams etc... I covered mine with poly bags - the covers come off the engine easy, there are internal baffles which are rivited on and sealed with a silicone type stuff. If you just powder-coating them I dont think the baffles neet removing. I had to remove mine as I had some -12 bungs welded on (swarf etc).
