BlackWatch66
Had my Rad top hose split earlier, I think that there was too much pressure, I have a Fluidyne Rad and a Blitz rad cap, with an autobahn88 top hose, all of these are under a year old. It split when it was cooling down (engine off) would this pressure increase be because the water pump is not pumping the water round when the car is off and not cooling it sufficiently? This therefore leads me to believe that either; 1. the top hose was not man enough 2. the rad cap pressure release spring is too stiff and not letting the pressure out? anyone had this problem before and can anyone recommend a way around this/ suitable replacements? cheers guys
markssupra
An aftermarket rad cap does have a stiffer spring which will raise the pressure and boiling point IIRC. I think a few people on here have found a connection between using an aftermarket rad cap and the heater matrix going pop. Personally I only use the standard toyota one. Nic
Not suprised, the autobahn88 hoses I've seen looked poor quality. GReddy do an aluminium upper rad pipe which comes with good quality connectors and fittings (mine lasted around 10 years with no problems), also includes a boss for temp sensor (blanking bolt included if not required). GReddy Upper Rad Pipe http://www.trust-power.com/03electric/img/radi_pipe.jpg *Power Enterprise, Blitz and Samco also do decent quality rad hoses for the Supra; the Power Enterprise and Samco ones are only available as a set, Blitz do upper rad pipe only. I used a Power Enterprise lower rad pipe on mine which I had no problems with over the 5 years it was fitted. *Edit, just checked PE ones only available for VVTi now. BlackWatch66
Thanks guys! @Nic, can you possibly get hold of FMIC Silicone joiny bits (you know what I mean) and a rad top hose all black? If so how much ? (BTW my supe isnt a VVTI) and also a standard Toyota rad cap ( i take it they fit on Fluidyne rads?) Cheers bud:D Edited September 30, 2009 by BlackWatch66 (see edit history)
Nic
I don't know of anyone who does a specific kit of IC connectors for the Supra, but GReddy sell various diameter connectors separately which would do the trick. GReddy Connectors http://www.trust-power.com/14others/images/sl_hose.jpg The Samco hoses are available in different colours including black, but only available as upper and lower set. Sorry I'm not trading at the moment due to ill health, hoping to be open for business again in a few months. EdMorris
Don't know about the rad cap pressure, but with regard to hoses, give Lee at SFS Performance hoses a call. He can supply various diameters of hose and can even make bespoke shapes. http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/index.asp
