Guigsy
yep the 1jz is a good swap. supposed to be a smoother more revy engine.
Chris Wilson
It's highly unusual for the head gasket to fail, and if it's because of overheating (most likely cause) the head's almost certainly scrap.
Swampy442
Yeah I agree with Chris, the 1JZs head gaskets dont tend to just go. Its a good engine with plenty of modding kit about. Just do a search on here, NA=T and NA-TT has been done to death. Theres even a forum for it http://www.clubna-t.com/
Jay_vr6
I have a 1jz in my supra, its lovely, runs off the 2jzgte ecu. Apparently the wiring is the nightmare part of the install, check both the turbos if you can before you buy though also you need to source a 2jzgte rev counter as the Na one won't fit, that was the hardest bit for me to find. Swampy442
runs off the 2jzgte ecu. How did you achieve that? Couldnt you get a 1JZ ECU?
Jay_vr6
you'll find the 1jz ecu has a tendency to go pop, most users then substitute a 2jz ecu, have a look on supramania for more in depth info. using the 2jz ecu does require changing the ignition system wiring i believe as one is batch firing and the other isn't (which ever way round it is the 2jz way is far better so i'm told). People find the 2jz ecu is alot better, although it does assume its a 3.0 engine rather than 2.5 so slightly overfuels unless you use a s-afc. I've had zero trouble with mine and have been using it daily for 6 months.
Swampy442
Oh right, in 7 years of Soarer ownership and 5 cars Ive never heard of that one I take it the cars are manual? Saying that its the same auto box... Also Ive never had an ECU failure. Ill deffo look into that though, cheers for the heads up How do you find the 1JZ in the Supra?
