pbryant_knight
Hi Guys, I have a problem. Now i'm crap at explaining/describing problems so please bear with me. When i drive over a small hole in the road or slight raised surface the steering tends to go a little crazy (not a lot). you also can feel every bump in the road. it's as though the shockers do nothing. this being said, i just got some new shockers/springs from Hogde which i yet to have fitted. He also mentioned something about droplinks? now i have no idea about anything mecanically so could someone explain what they do/how much they cost etc. Anyone know if there could be anything else wrong. Someone at a garage suggested tracking for the steering going off a bit over bumps? Any help is appreciated. Cheers Peter
Ian R
My first question would be what size wheels do you have and what profile are they ??
pbryant_knight
They are 18". not sure of the profile. Here's a couple of pics. Don't even know what kind of wheels they are or what the symbol in the centre cap is. Peter

pbryant_knight
Cheers for that Link to e-bay. they seem quite resonably priced. What do they actually do? could this be contributing to the problem? Cheers Peter
wantasupra
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question432.htm easy to look here. than try to explain, b

pbryant_knight
Is there anything else that i should/could replace to help clear this problem? Also, i have J-spec springs and shocks off Hodge but i'd already bought some UK shocks off e-bay. Would the UK shocks fit my j-spec car with the jap springs? if so, would this make the ride any better? also would the UK shocks mean that the car will go lower when under weight? (i'm a DJ and will need to find a way to get all my gear in the Supra when i get it all fixed up) Peter

wantasupra
use J-spec springs and shocks off Hodge. uk were only turbos so they would be no good for a na.
pbryant_knight
Cheers mate. thanks for the Advice. I'll order those droplinks up on Payday and hopfully get them, the shocks, the springs, and the tracking all done at once. Peter

pbryant_knight
I also have a clunking sound when i put my car on full lock? Will the Droplinks cure this or will i need something else? If so, what, how much, where from and do you have an e-bay link? Cheers Peter
Nic
Looking at the pics the car sits VERY low, the rear wheel widths also look too narrow or are the wrong offset, plus the tyre side walls look narrow, non of these things will help the handling and will cause tramlining. The clunk on full lock when maneuvering will be either loose sub frame bolts or suspension arm bolts. I'd suggest before spending money replacing parts that it 'might be', get the car to a specialist and get them to give the suspension a thorough check over underneath and take the car for a test drive. If they are any good they should be able to quickly diagnose the issue (be it worn suspension, wrong size/offset wheels, tracking, etc. etc.) and tell you exactly what you need to do to cure it. pbryant_knight
Cheers for the Advice. I need to change the Springs/shocks anyway so i'll get them to have a good look around while they're on Peter
