Well,

after 3 years & near on 40k miles, my turbo decided it's had enough. big cloud of smoke, bye bye:bang:.

The question is.....do I keep with the T61 or go for a T67. I do like the early spool of the T61, but, it's allways tempting to have that little bit more:innocent:, so.....your thoughts folks?

Never owned a single and never likely to! but i would say your "3 years and 40K miles" comment would make me think 1) you were happy with it and 2) there's no reason you couldn't enjoy another few years by just replacing it with a like for like turbo......

............I admit thats the dull approach/outlook :)

As Scooter said really, if you're happy with the T61 then it might not be worth the extra expense of changing it.

That said, the T67dbb will spool near the same, but packs more punch at the higher end. What cams do you have?

Only downside is the extra plumbing for the water cooling, plus the mapping.

6262 - Supposed to have the best of both the T61/67.

managed to get the afternoon off, so I hit the spanners,

Straight turbo failure, exhaust wheel had come apart from the cartridge....due to wear..who knows. There wasn't any debris in the cartridge oil chamber.

Compressor side is perfect, still spins nice & smooth with no play.

ho hum, still deciding what to replace it with.

edit, damage was from bouncing around the exhaust housing
