im looking at around the 8k for a tt 6speed.... but after looking around i can pick up a freshly rebuilt rx7 single with 400+hp for between £5500-6500.... im sure sum of u have been to the island and have experienced the totally embarassing standard of roads, and where they tend to look more like rally stages than a strip or track im a tad concerned the supra may be a bit big and heavy.... where ive been told the rx7 is a lighter more nimble car which just lacks the reliability and peak power potential!? it will be my daily driver and driven hard on these not ideal roads...

I've been to the IOW quite a few times. In fact, a close family member is buried there.

I wouldn't choose either to be honest. Get an Evo unless you're coming over to the mainland a lot. Neither are very comfortable on B roads, which is pretty much the best the IOW has to offer. The Supra is a completely different car to the RX7, but both will be shit on the IOW :)

If you want a RWD car for those roads, look at an AE86. More power won't help you as much as being able to drive like a legend.

Also think about who will be working on the car. Are there any mechanics in IoW that can work on an RX7? It is a very specialised engine and not many know how to fix them properly.

The supra is easier to work on, most spanner monkeys can do it unless it is something like a full strip and rebuild.

Having owned both it purely depends on what you are looking for. Be more specific and I can give you a better answer.

LOL an N/A doesn't count :p

Go for a Supra, because an RX-7 needs an RX-7 rotary specialist to service it often, and I don't think there is one on the IOW. At least with the Supra being so reliable you can use it as a daily driver no problem, where as I wouldn't feel comfortable using a Rex as my daily driver unless I had a specialist near by in case something did happen with the engine. If you do go for one, get one with a warranty on the engine or make sure it was rebuilt by a specialist with receipts, as just because it says it's had a rebuild, means nothing as so many are not rebuilt correctly etc.

EDIT: Branners pretty much said it all :D

Not everyone buys a supra to race around in, hence toyta spent millions of pounds coming up with a naturally aspirated version :p

Rx7s have friendlier forums and owners clubs mind.. You won't have to put up with this kinda jibe :p

Once again me know what you are looking for and I can help you decide.

I was just thinking.. this is the only owners club I know of where members insult other members for having the same marque and model of car but choosing the smaller engine variant.

To be fair its not all members who do this. Only the ":@#'#~:" ones. Make your choice - just bear in mind what the vibe of this club can be like, especially if you ask a question which may have been asked 20 times in 8 years but you were never here to read the answers.

I know why I sold my supra and know what car I am choosing now between the 2 cars you are asking about.

Well to be fair, the N/A really is a different car to drive and maintain, the thread starter was asking about a TT Supra, not an N/A, hence why you can't compare.

No need to get so defensive about it really is there, no one else takes it seriously except you. Shame you sold your Supra because you don't like the forum  I've been on the Mazda Rotary Club, I prefer this forum :) Funny how you have managed to rack up 2,433 posts on a forum you don't like and constantly moan about.

I have that many posts because luckily there are a few decent intelligent members on here are nice to talk to and pick minds with. They are getting more and more far and between.

You'll generally notice the intelligent ones amongst us, post on interesting thoguht provoking debates and threads on current affairs or something unusual, which expand my mind creatively and emotionally. That is why I am still here.

The dufuses (not talking about you in this instance) normally wait in the shadows for pointless mind numbing threads to post on and generally are quite argumentative.

Anyway I am not going to waste further time on this..

People can make up their own mind on what this club is like.

By the way I never said I sold my supra purely for the reason of the pr**ks on this club. But it was certainly a reason which partially influenced me to selling it amongst other things.

sorry if i have opened a can of worms here lol.... fact is ive owned a civic type r and a 350hp scoob and although 4wd is king over here i now want a monster rwd.... and as for those who dont think the island roads are bad, ive been here 20yrs now yes they are lol... but imo they do offer some of the most challanging driving at 2-4am mid week!! haha anyway my mechanic and friend who has worked on all my cars has recomended the supra due to reliabilty and the fact that he has worked on a few and has limited experience with the rotary machine...!

i do drive my cars hard, i do drive them everyday, but i do take good care of them! i just wanted to see what ur guys experiences were with the handling, power, running and repair costs and of course the reliability as a daily driver??

oh and after posting on the "rx7 froum" not a single person has responded... so that says alot for u guys, thankyou!

1 mate is just having his 650hp evo7 built, another 2 have a 300hp and a 410hp pulsars, and various scoobs... ive been in them all and owned a scoob... the evo takes too much away from the driver imo... pulsars are fun but not overly reliable and lets face it they are ugly lol, and scoobs although i loved mine with a passion are now very very common and i been there and done it! there is only 1 other tt on the island which i know of and 1 other n/a and i think the only rx7 was recently sold of the island.... the guy who works on my cars owns a R32 GTR, SCOOB, and s14 200SX, and when i get the call to go out for a spin he always seems to be in the 200... its just alot of fun steering from the rear :-p

so that is y its supra or rx7 comparison! cheers

Ahh I see, well in that case and the fact you like to drive your cars hard and fast and want to use it daily I would recommend the Supra (without sounding biased).

The reason why?

Because the RX7 is brilliant, but with the rotary like mentioned reliablity can be an issue, good friend of mine had one for 2 years... he brought it with a rebuilt engine but like SupraGirlie has mentioned this can sometimes mean nothing! The tips on the rotor burned (I think he said burned) but this caused problems in the combustion chamber and he had to get another rebuild done. They are good if you look after them but as a daily driver I would take a Supe!

My 2 pence here matey!

Good luck and oh :welcome: :D

thanks for the advice, it looks like i should stick with my original plan and go for the supra! it was just after looking at the specifications the rx7 looked more suited to the island due to its handling and lighter weight, but obviously not as suitable for a daily driver! :-D
