Insurance - restricted mileage

Hi all,

Ive always been of the opinion that restricted mileage didnt really affect the quote much, and most places (the online quotes anyway) dont seem to make much of a discount. Well, Ive just had a phone call from Footman James in response to an email I sent them.

Basically, I have 0 years NCB (named driver for 5 years), but 3 years between 96-99 (dont count as didnt carry the NCB on).

Anyway, most quotes Ive been getting have been over £5000, with the cheapest being norwich union direct at £2500.

Im 27 years old, have 0 points, and had one prang with some (unt in 2002.

The car being insured (still being shipped!!) is a 1997 RZ-S Twin Turbo Supra.

Anyway, they said if they restricted my mileage, and offered a 1 year introductory bonus, plus had a letter from the policy holder that I have been a named driver for confirming I was on their policy, they could get my quote down SUBSTANTIALLY.

Heres the nitty gritty:

10000 miles/year - over £5000

6000 miles/year - £2500

4500 miles/year - £1604 (!!!)

This has saved me nearly £1k on my last best quote, of £2500 with a £1420 excess!

I know this wont affect most of you, but for the people who havent got an awful lot of NCB it may :)
