OK, I've found a candidate...

for my first Supra. I need an NA due to insurance prices. Either that or I wait like 5 years til I have all the cash sitting around.

 

Pistonheads advert here.

 

Comes with Viper Cat1 alarm with certificate.

 

Last service was in Jan 09 with all fluids changed, engine, gearbox, brake, diff (LSD), Power steering and coolant, also fitted Iridium plugs

 

She runs beautifully and has done since ive had her. Been ultra reliable and had new brake pads fitted in Dec 08.

 

All mechanical work was carried out by performance specialist who knows more than a thing or two about jap cars and i can tell you this car has been well looked after.

 

Car has also been professionally undersealed to prevent rust from weather conditions and our salt roads which imports dont have much protection against.

 

Has a Apexi powerflow air induction kit fitted, also 1st cat replaced by decat but 2nd still in place to pass MOTs and to keep abit of back pressure. If wanted i still have original air box and 1st cat.

 

Envys GT exhaust system fitted to which gives off a real nice note.

 

Bad bits: Drivers side wing mirror is black due to replacing old one

Any thoughts? The bodykit and alarm interest me most. I've been in discussions with the chap and seem to be agreeing on a price.

 

I'd probably go for it, if this forum wasn't around. I paid my membership and already value the opinions of the users, so this is why I humbley as for further input.

The bodykit of Top Secret front with Failside skirts. The bonnet is custom.

 

The alarm is a well known brand, but make sure you get the CAT1 certificate for your insurance.

 

I like the bonnet, is it not the TRD style one?

 

Skirts are nice and the front is nice too.

 

He says he has the cert for the alarm.

Have you really looked into insurance prices? TT's are often the same or cheaper to insure...

 

Yeh, I gave them a check on the meerkat site.

 

I am a 25 year old male, with no history of cars (unless they'll take being a named driver here and there). License since Nov 2002.

 

You're going to end up convincing me to save and save and save and get a TT... aren't you?!?! :D

You're not going to get a real quote from online systems searching with modified cars. Call companies like Sky, Adrian Flux and Elephant. The Meerkats are deceptive.

I contacted sky via here and he basically said that Admiral were my best bet.

 

I guess I should choose which car to go for and if it's the TT it'd take me a good 6 months from now to get the money.

 

NA would be much sooner.

 

Why would a TT be cheaper to insure than an NA?

Agreed - get your quotes the old fashioned direct way for such cars.

 

If you're gonna lust for more power, bite the bullet and go TT in the first place - otherwise you'll join the ranks of many NA owners looking to sell up to now get a TT.

6 months to save for a TT and insurance?? I'd say hold on and save and give youurself a wider playing field to play in come 6 months from now! also that will be nearer xmas too which can be a good time to buy/haggle.

Agree pay very little difference between a Stock NA and Stock TT

The N/A is only available as an import and import cars are more expensive to insure. If you can save up for a UK TT, the insurance may be cheaper.

 

Seeing a Michael isn't here, I'll point out that all insurance quotes are subjective and only relate to the individual.

Even if it means my 'first car' (i.e. one I had all by my own) will be a Twin Turbo 3litre supra?

I'd say both have enough torque to see an inexperienced RWD driver backwards in a hedge....

 

Maybe an idea to start with something else RWD and say 120bhp ish? Personally, I started out in a 90bhp Ford Sierra :taped:

 

If you do take the plunge direct into high power / torque RWD, get yourself on track to get really familiar with RWD characteristics and your Supra in a controlled environment where you can have a digital right foot and see what happens without so much risk of crashing.

I've driven a few rear wheel drive cars before, just never had my own insurance.

 

Did everyone have some weakling RWD car before getting the Supra?

 

In all seriousness, what car should I get? I asked a few days ago, which car I should get for some cheap insurance... but I would rather spend £2k on insurance in a car I would love, than £1.5k on insurance on a car I hate.

 

This is just for fun, I don't commute with a car.

 

I don't have a digital right foot. I'm really quite a sensible driver too.

 

Surely a small car with a higher power to weight ratio than the supra is going to be more likely spin? I mean, the supra is a lardly car.

 

Anyway, regardless to those opinions/facts/fabrications, I could either get an NA, which might be cheaper due to less power? or a TT, which might be more fun to drive. Or an NA, then a TT in a year... hence asking about this NA ;)

After all i had only been driving 4 months before driving my other halfs BPU TT and he used to let me out in that on my own :taped:

 

Either way just think before you put your foot down, they are highly tempermental cars dispite the weight, i for one have been caught out a few times, but you really learn to respect it :) (sort of) :sly:

Agree with your mentality. I will have huge respect. I will not instantly think everything is Fast and Furious or Days of Thunder. I will give a little toe in the dry, on the motorway, when overtaking a lorry or something, but for the most part I will just be so bloody happy I have a Supra. I will be driving at legal speeds everywhere and sensibly. I want to enjoy the drive, not die.

 

That's settled then, Supra it is. Fiddlesticks the rest!
