Camera mount for track days

May I suggest something like this: http://hjelmkamera.dk/hjelmkamera-27/vio-pov15-42/vio-pov15m-93.html

As far as I know, its a new system from danish Hjelmkamera.dk (Helmetcamera.dk)

There was a article about it in my car magazine, where they showed you could either install it inside the car, or outside on a window with a suction disc ( Dont know if thats the right word in English ).

Just a suggestion :)

And would it be stable enough? It looks OK to me but I am probably being a cheapskate as usual.

I have the micro suction mount, its the first one on this page http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/camera-suction-mounts.php The main problem I found is where to mount it, the windscreen and rear hatch means the camera is upside down, you then have to edit it after to flip it back over.

Since having the rollcage fitted I went for an Ultra Clamp, second one down on this page http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/fixed-camera-mounts.php

Both purchased from FastFilms who I found at the autosport show ;)

Won't the suction one work on the dash? I assume you've tried that and the answer is no. Maybe I should just duck tape it to the drivers seat headrest.

I made a mount located to the back site or the rear seat. It means it can be folded up or down when required.

I made it by unscrewing the 'wooden' backing and reinforcing it with another piece of timber. I then screwed a bit of 2"x2" into it with a screw in camera mount on the top. I have also screwed in a separate mic to the side of it.

That suction mounth will be fine for the windowscreen - just be aware that mounts have a maximum weight they can hold, so make sure the camera is light. Some tracks like Silverstone refuse suction mounts, saying they must be bolted down - local rules...Fastfilms are the boys to talk to - large range of equipment - something for everyone.

Would something like this be allowed? And would it be stable enough? It looks OK to me but I am probably being a cheapskate as usual.

I think its touch and go with many trackday companies when it comes to outside sucktion pads with cameras. I know I've been on some trackdays and noticed a couple of drivers being asked to remove their exterior sucktion mounts in the past.

A fixed (ie screwed mount) is the norm these days, either by screwed clamp method or by somehow bolting it to the car.

Best check with the trackday company prior to going to see what their rules are.

For best results then a bullet/pen cam should be used and then use a decent microphone to capture the sound. These can both be fed into a video/sound recorder such as a MP4 recorder or even a camcorder with both video and sound inputs (or even a laptop with the correct software etc).

Otherwise with exterior sound recorder facing into the air flow you just get a mess of wind noise that over rules the engine and tyre sounds.
