Advice needed ---> which 19" tyres ?

I have to change my 2 rear shoes (265-30-19).

I'm looking for tyres that have the extra bump protecting the rim and have to choose between :

VREDESTEIN ULTRAC

FALKEN FK 451XL

HANKOOK VENTUS S1 EVO K 107

also maybe

YOKOHAMA AVS SPORT V103

PIRELLI P ZERO NERO XL

but I'm not sure these 2 ones have the protecting bump.

Do some of you have owned/tested these tyres, and what would you recommand for daily use ?

Goodyear Eagle F1's have the rim protection .

I like the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and Toyo R888

I'm a real big fan of the Kuhmo Ecstas now (mine are 19's aswell)

I ran Goodyear Eagle F1's on my Supra. Loved them. Have the Goodyear Asymmetrics on my M3 now and can't fault them.

I had some scary under steer in a spare set of Kumhos on the Supra once. Took them off sharpish. Also, on the Michelin Pilot Sports and Pilot Sport cups the may be 2 completely different tyres. Just check and if they are make sure you get go for the cups.

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are available in 235-35 R 19 and 265-30 R19.

Pilot Sport Cups are a specialised track day tyre with pretty dreadful wet grip, and a need for modern suspension with plenty of static negative camber, to boot. They are also very harsh and noisy. 90% of people probably wouldn't find them a good choice at all!

We have a specialist tyre centre (yes a proper specialist place with the hi-tech equipment and contracts with Porsche, Jaguar etc + more).

On our demonstration and my personal 328i, we run Falkens, the FK452 are great, longest wear rate, superb consistent wet/dry grip, excellent construction, with the only downside being that they will be a little noisy in comparison to the likes of Goodyear's Eagle and Conti Sport Contact. We also have the ZE512 and Ziex fitted on family cars.

Michelin PS2 all round on my Supra at the moment, had them on other cars, great tyre, but you can get the same for less with the Goodyear Eagle F1 variants, which have been my all time favourite.

Toyo - not a fan of these on the road, a good tyre but, overated with poor wear rates.

Yokohama - had the AVS on an M3, due to an unexplainable overtstreer moment when driving normally amongst traffic, I had them removed and replaced with Goodyear F1's, no issues since. Also had these Yoko's on a Bently Flying Flying Spur (hire vehicle), not very impressed with the level of performance or feedback.

Pirelli's - from experience, I'd say don't use them unless you know what you are doing. Great tyre, wears quickly, no where near as good as the FK452 or Goodyear/Michelins in the wet/damp/greasy conditions. In the dry they are very good and also easy to get warm in winter conditions but even when warm the cold Goodyears outshine them!

P-zero directional (diretizone or something like that) up front with P-zero asymetic on the rear work well on some cars but again they are only good during the warmer weather.

My opinion, the best would be the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric. Flawless, consistent performance almsot down to the wear markers, work great from cold and they are extremely competitively priced, slotting closer to the FK452 range saving you having to splash out on Michelin's.

I've been told good things about the goodyear f1, unfortunately I have to chose between the ones mentioned in my 1st post because this size is all but common here in France so I'll have to order from internet, otherwise the tyres are very expensive in stores.... I don't know how much they are in the UK but here I got a 400-ish quote per tyre for the michelips2 for instance.....

I'll have a quick flick through my trade book, but from 'your' list, I'd personally only go for the Falken FK452.

In your size, 265/30/19, Dunlop (same as Goodyear) do the Dunlop Sport Maxx with rim protection.

I'd say go for either of the following and you'll be happy;

Falken FK452 - premium peformer without the big price tag

Dunlop Sport Maxx - premium brand, good all round performance and a bit quieter than the FK452.

Michelin PS2 - always a superb performer and the most expensive, but generally not worth it overall in comparison to a Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric. Sublime as the Continental Conti-sport contact 2 to drive on and the feedback is brilliant.

I can't see falken 452 from where i will be ordering, what about the 451 ? is it a very different tyre ?

FK 451 is an older version of the 452, the FK 451 will be fine
