Yes the gearbox is the same, you have L,2, and D, but you can slide it across just next to D into M mode, then use the buttons on the front and back of the steering wheel.

 

So you can drive 3 ways, leave it in D, go through the gears from L to D using the auto stick or leave it in M and change the paddles. You can switch between M and D whenever you want during driving.

Also, Tiptronics don't have overdrive.

The Tiptonic gate / gearstick gate is neater, with a simpler more attractive gear knob.

VVTis have a lightly higher rev limit too, with allegedly another 20/25 bhp over non VVTi's.

When I went BPU, I was advised by those I trust that going BPU on a VVTi was the same deal as non VVTi's.

Same here. The only difference I can think of is that you need a VVTi-specific de-cat pipe. I got mine from Chris Wilson, they're absolute works of art.

 

Obviously, you'll also need to check the wiring on the BCC you use as it'll probably have a pin-out diagram for the non-VVTi.
