jevansio Posted May 20, 2009 Share Posted May 20, 2009 I'm attempting some work on the car myself for a change & being a novice to it I'd apprecaite a couple of pointers. My next task is to fit the tubular manifold back on. I've got a new set of gaskets. Is there any particular method in tightening the nuts up? Do I just make sure I tighten them each up a bit at a time? Any particular pattern? Also any special preperation of the surfaces? Bear in mind I have done nothing like this before so take nothing for granted Another small question, when I checked my turbo oil feed line I removed it from the damaged turbo & cranked the engine one turn, nothing, I cranked it again once, nothing. I decided to put the IGN fuses back in & fire it up and shut it off immediatley, it wasn't until a second AFTER the engine was shut off that oil came out the feed. Is this normal? CarlT67 Posted May 20, 2009 Share Posted May 20, 2009 At a guess, I would say it'll take 1-2 seconds to get flow, as with the turbo its takes a little long for the oil pressure light to go out as the oil system is a larger system to pressurize. Therefore if you are giving it only a super short burst then the pressure wont have enough time to rise. Also if its disconnected air will be allowed in and the oil will gravity feed into the sump so the oil also has to refill the line in this situation. Kirk Posted May 21, 2009 Share Posted May 21, 2009 LOADS of lube to slacken them nuts off, dont want to be shearing them studs off now! torque them back down to OEM specs, if you dont have a torque wrench then just tighten them down good and proper! When your ready to put manifold back on give the contacting surfaces a bit of a scrub with sand paper! Its childs play, shoudnt be that hard bud!
